Is life all about faking it?

Think back to your first serious work-related responsibility.
Did you have any clue what you were supposed to be doing?
Why didn't anyone ever tell me that no matter how much school I had I would never really really be prepared for real life?

observe. understand. function. it gets so much easier. you'll love getting older. :)

You're never really prepared for anything - what you should develop tho is problem solving skills, self control, focus, confidence. I do agree 1000% w/ HR - you simply cannot compare the abilities you have say at age 40 vs age 20.

From my own life -- I pursued college including undergrad & 2 masters degrees in 3 different areas w/ the purpose of "preparing myself" and having the "right" credentials. The result -- in real life - I actually taught myself how to code in 1988 but didnt' actually take those languages until my masters degree (computer science). then I went to the business side after completing my MBA but I've literally spent the last 10 yrs watching dumbfucks run vibrant, talented people, great ideas and millions of dollars in resources into the ground in various start-ups due partially to greed and partially to stupid ass business decisions (or lack thereof).

There are always little things you have to do to "climb the ladder" but if you take a logical approach to them, apply a few wild ass guesses every now and then, have integrity in what you do, don't be afraid to ask questions, build relationships, stay focused on where YOU want to go - you will have what it takes to succeed.

Incompetence is widespread, don't worry, you'll work with plenty of people more incompetent than you. If/When you realize you are head and shoulders above the incompetents is when you'll be successful.

alters are fake

I am scared because I now realize how educated I am and how little I know. People put so much trust in their young doctors and lawyers and bankers. We dont know what the hell we are doing! Let us pray that I catch on quick.

Watch Office Space. The fact you worry about it puts you above your peers. It sucks being a perfectionist. That's why I'm on EF.

Office Space is one of my favorite movies.
I used to be an office drone and I was fine with just going through the motions.
But it is different now that I am dealing with real people and not just paper.

ALL new lawyers feel this way. Prepare, prepare, prepare, but don't be too afraid to go out on a limb, especially in court. My best moments have always been when I was feeling like a maverick.

all lawyers should dive off of the Empire State building head first onto a tack.....jus' sayin'...

In a way it is. When I'm at work Im very professional, but as soon as I leave, I'm hittin the bong and talking slang. I know this guy who is very high up in a company and makes 300g's a year. After he gets off of work he blazes a phatty and opens up a beer and chills out. No one at his workplace would think that he's like that outside of work.

There is alot of faking in life, you got to play the game in order to succeed.
