Is it wrong to put my 18 year old daughter on a polygraph machine?

Man, I love my daughter to death and would do anything for her. But I think she is starting to lie and sneak out again. My wife found her jeans and tennis shoes by the front door. Plus I told her she always had to wear a helmet when she rides her 50 dirt bike and she wasn't when I pulled up. So anyway I thought I will just freak her out and make her take a polygraph test today to find out if she did sneak out last night. And then let her know if I ever think she is lying I will make her take it again.

How much are polygraphs anyway?

And do you think I am wrong to do this?

And you people under 21 I could care less what you think because you don't know what it is like to have teenagers of your own. But you will one day.

See that is the thing I am not a nazi. I let her ride 50s until 1:30 or 2:00 I just want to know what time she is going to be home so I know when I need to start looking for her. I take her riding on my sport bike. I let her go to clubs(which I hate with a passion). IT SUCKS BEING A PARENT!!! I am way to young for all these headaches.
 
:lmao: I hope this is a joke if not dam! If you give her a polygraph test you are showing you don't trust her. Ff you don't trust her how is she suppose to trust you and telll you the truth?
 
I'd advise against the polygraph. It would show the level of distrust you have for her, and imagine how hard you'd fight that as a kid. I know that when I was 18 if my parents did that I'd do anything I could to say f@%k you for not trusting me. Do you spend much time with her? Maybe buy a used bike and go ride with her. You'll have more $$$ now that you've quit smoking. Just don't break your ass again. If you do, just less publicly.
 
Polygraph tests should be outlawed. They are extremely unreliable. People lose jobs over false results. Anyone that says different is either ignorant or dumb. End of story.
 
well... you know how i feel about helmets, so if i thought my kid was out on a bike without one, I'd freak. but then again, i wouldn't get one for my 18 year old- there's a reason why insurance is so high for young drivers. they don't have the depth perception or experience. ok, enough of that....
I just caught my son lying to me. he's 13 and told me he was going to go to after school help every day this week.
red flag going up....
then i got a notice that he had detetion for something small. i don't care about the detention as much as i do about the lying.
i hid the notice and let him enjoy his holiday, but i kept telling him how proud i was of him for going to after school help. then i said "you're not lying to me about it, are you?"
he innocently said "no!"
uh huh.
so the night before last i confronted him. i asked him over and over and he kept lying, till i asked "what if i have the proof that you keep running to the mailbox to get before i see it?"
he went white.
anyway, he's so punished and has no privaledges for a while. find out if she's lying and take the bike away if she is.

something smells fishy, curling. people generally dont lie repeatedly about what time they got home if all they were doing was ride around on their bike. why bother lying when you can say "sorry, lost track of time"?

my bullshitometer just spiked into the red, whats the real story?

But isn't that her fault for lying? I mean why else would your leave your jeans and tennis by the front door. It makes no sense.

I dont get that either, were they dirty from biking? I snuck out constantly, and never left clothes on the door step

I am not saying I haven't ever lied. But I really try my best not to. I hate lying and everything about it.
 
Its funny how readily everyone dismisses the topic as unreasobale.

If I had reason to believe that my child might be doing themselves significant harm, or putting themselves in danger, then yes I would.

Its like saying you shouldnt drug test your child when you have good reason to suspect they are taking drugs, but keep denying it repeatedly.

Yeah, I know. BUt people lie when they are doing something that someone who has control over them does not approve of. Just a fact of life. Will you lie to your boss to keep your job? Yes, you will under most circumstances.
Only the republicans would have you believe different because they are hypocrites. ;) I have a daughter and I totally empathize with you. My time is coming soon.

Of course she's at fault for lying. That and stealing are the two things that would drive me insane as a parent. But as a parent you have to make yourself available to her to admit she's wrong. She can sense what you're putting out emotionally. SP went about her situation fantastically. Trust works both ways. It may be hard for her to approach you about certain things. I know what was going on im my head when I was that age, and if I were a parent I'd be suspicious too. In hindsight I wish my mom and dad made themselves more available and didn't seem so quick to judge.

That's not gonna happen and you know it. He's a Christian. Don't persecute the man for his beliefs. He only wants what's he feels is best for his daughter.

as i kinda said earlier though, the sneaking out wouldn't bother me as much as not wearing a helmet. those were the times i spanked my kids- when they ran into the street or some other dangerous thing that they knew not to do. if i were curling, i'd be very upset if i thought she was sneaking out- cause he really needs to know where she is and what she's doing, but i'd be far more worried about her out on a bike without safety equipment.

True. But being out here in Utah I see Mormon the bishops' daughters behaving like the Girls Gone Wild people. The more they try to keep them in check, the more they break away.
 
im 17 but i know I would never ever forgive my parents for doing that. then again i never sneak out and dont really do anything wrong but i think a polygraph is a little extreme and would hurt more then help. would be better to keep a better eye on her at night maybe?
 
The very fact you ask this in itself proves to me that you are completely unfit to raise a daughter

besides as she is 18 already you should probably start letting her go

if she is not wise enough by now to take care of herself you've already gone wrong in the past

Because I am so much smarter than curling that even when he has experienced something directly and i have only done so indirectly, my judgement is more valuable than his.

Ive never raised a kid but ive BEEN raised... ive seen some people be raised and somehow i know a lot of people who were raised in different sorts of ways and the ways it effected them.

That sort of answer isnt going to cut it when you are still a teenager and curling is over twice your age with a wealth of experience regarding raising a child. Quit pontificating for once and just realize not everything in life is measured on an IQ scale.
 
granted i am a youthful 26 yr old w/no kids, i think the age of 18 is too old for curfews, home punishment etc. I wouldn't want to push her away to far at this age. she could tell you to fuck off and move out. she'll be pissed and she want revenge. before you know it she'll be topless bull riding in every hee-haw bar in Texas.

when you say 50, do you mean a 50 cc dirt bike??? If so that is extremely gai, at least get her a 125

Your post is a good point. Hopefully I have raised her better than to be a topless dancer but she could always move in with a friend or worse a dude.

It is a 50cc. But man, they are hot for stunters. Most of the dudes have both sport bikes and 50s. They put higher bars on the them, beef up the suspension, and put street tires on them. Then they proceed to do all the stunt wheelies you can imagine and endos on parking lots(Street not dirt)
 
Its "Yarg!"- like what pirates say. Although the way Robert Jan is saying his msg is a bit harsh, I have to agree with him and say no to polygraph test. THen again, thats just my humble opinion. Good luck.

A polygraph? Are you insane? This situation does not call for a polygraph...it calls for surveillance. You need a good old-fashioned stake-out to catch her red-handed...that way there is no opportunity to try and lie. When someone's busted, they're just plain busted.

I bet i can kick the butt out of ANY polygraph machine you throw at me. I don't sweat or have a higher hear rate when i lie. So it's useless. Not to mention i can sweat over simple shit likea job interview -- even though i ain't lying about anything. So once again, it's completely useless.

exactly, my dad is a nazi the more hes a nazi the more i feel i need to defy him. i enjoy deceiving him. i dont like him. my advice is trust her, once she fucks up or you catch her do somethign about it.
