Is funny a male gene?

Ben stillers dad in the heartbreak kid movie said that funny was a male gene and that all the female comedians are kinda manish. I started to think about it and its kinda true: Ellen Degeneres, Wanda Sykes etc... So are men funnier than women?

YES.

being funny helps a dude get laid...doesn't really help a chick. So i'm thinking maybe humor is selected for in bros? Or maybe guys develop their sense of humor because they have to?

i was also thinking having more test makes males more creative, which is like the foundation of humor.

I think so in general, but I know this one woman who is smokin hot and has the best sense of humor I've ever seen in a woman. Really..... she cracks me up

do you think wearing heels like vixen's for a month could get my calves jacked?

You could prolly try and trick those shitty genetics you're rockin for a month with a set of heels. Hey, you'd at least get noticed in the process. :)

"Funny" isn't a genetic trait, IMO, it's something that's learned...but while there are exceptions to the rule, I think it's safe to say that men DO have some genetic traits that make them more predisposed to "learn" funny. I have a few thoughts on the subject.

- It's already established that guys are more natural risk takers. If you accept that one has to kind of learn funny in the early years, you've got to be willing to throw out some bombs out there now and then, the joke that just falls flat. Aside from needing a sense of risk taking, it's just way more part of the social landscape for guys. The leaders of the pack are funny.

- A decent looking female is not expected to be funny and therefore has less reason - on top of less inclination - to go through the trial and error at that younger age. Less attractive women may take the risks to compensate and make themselves competitive, but since society in general does not put "sense of humor" as high on the female list as it does the male, you're still going to get much smaller numbers.

- the best humor, in my opinion, is humor we can on some level relate to. I happen to think Ellen Degeneres, while her standup is completely unrelatable to men most of the time, is actually "woman" funny (meaning we get the jokes, because a lot of the jokes are about us doing retarded things like making faces in the mirror when we put mascara on). But you get someone up there like Chris Rock and his style is much more universally relatable. Part of the reason he can cross that gender barrier is because guys can get away with a kind of shock value humor that coming from a woman is....oddly incongruent. The only female I can currently think of who tries to go in that direction is Sarah Silverman...and while I know some guys who think she's funny...I know a ton of people, men and women, who do not like her at all. There is just something, for a lot of people, that falls flat about an attractive female making jokes about cock and balls.

Wear your pink lipstick and that blonde wig you got stashed in your closet. I'm sure he'll come around. :)

Excellent post!

IQ plays a huge factor in the "chuckle department". It has NADDA to do with being a female or a male IMO!

Just my humble 2 cents....
