Is 21 too young too get BHP??

The antibiotics took the prostate pain away a good 80% but still some residual. I have to go back to the doctor, and I am hoping it was just an infection, like prostititus, and I just need some more antibiotics.... But at my age I would think it is too young to develop BHP, the benign swelling of the gland?? Any of you old timers know??? THANKS!

Well, BPH does not mean infection. Prostatitus can be quite difficult to get rid of and the antibiotics they use for it are usually pretty strong. I sure hope I never get it. It seems to me, however, that you're not quite sure what you have and I'm surprised the doc couldn't give you a more conclusive diagnosis. When you go back to the doc ask him exactly what you have and treat it accordingly. But just fyi, I'd treat BPH with Saw Palmetto, Pygeum, Pumpkin Seed and Lycopene. Make sure you get a product with standardized extracts. hth

definately not Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) espcially at 21. If the symptoms are things such as a UTI (burning on urination, cloudy urine) lower back pain, perineal pain and fever, and a tender prostate on examination, I would have to agree it sounds more like prostatitis and the best treatment for it is Cipro for a minimum of 30 days (sometimes up to 12 weeks for refractory cases). They can also treat it with bactrim but cipro penetrates the prostatic tissues better.

Good luck

awesome info guys thanks! They put me on Levaquin for 3 weeks, and it seemed to get rid of a lot of the problem, but still 20% or so of the pain still lingers. This makes me belive it is just an infection and more medicine is needed. Specially since it might be a pretty bad prostititus infection...

Also, I have been taking saw palmetto with nettles, etc for a while and it does nothing! So if it were BHP i would think it would have helped some... OK back to the doc.. Thanks guys

You can get prostitis at any age and it can cause swelling of the prostate, but DHT inhibitors won't do much since that isn't the cause of the problem.

You got an infection dude. The question now should be, from where? Where you boning your girlfriend in the butt? That's the number one cause of it.

Oh yea, and a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION! If it is an infection and I take the antibiotics and get rid of it- is this a sign that doing a test and eq or deca cycle (or any cycle for that matter) will reaggrivate the prostate again... Or does one thing have nothing to do with the other???

I got BPH as an teenager from using antihistimines, and it has bothered me on and off for years. I avoid antihistimines, eca, and take liberal doses of saw palmetto with 50mg of zinc daily and do well. Test and other steroids DONOT inflame my prostrate.

any more info on cycling with the prob?

You have an infection and you're taking a VERY strong anti-biotic for it. I'd wait until the infection was gone and you were clear of the Levaquin before you did a cycle of anything.

hey. let me clear it up. i have to go back to the Dr for more anti-biotics, but after the problem is gone and the meds are done, do u think it would be safe to do a cycle. i fear it would cause another prostate problem... but then again maybee DHT probs from test is different than the infection.... hmm not sure
