I guess if it's that exciting to anybody... I'm taking this post into a rant:
It must be more of a social gathering for all those sheep, than each one of them actually wanting the new product so badly. The same thing happens every time they have a free ice cream night at Baskin-Robbins. About 500 people get in line to wait 2 hours for a free ice cream cone. That completely boggles my mind. Let me think: $2, and a 3-minute wait for an ice cream cone at another place up the street, or at the same store if you come back the next day, or waste 2 hours and get it free, and have to elbow your way out of the overcrowded store, smelling armpits next to you dessert because those same people probably buy cheap deodorant, and are terrified of their water bills. Personally, I think my time is worth more than $1/hour. Same again for gas stations with prices 2c below the one across the street. Let's say you need 10 gallons. That's a difference of 20 cents. If you idle the engine for 5 minutes waiting, you have most definitely burned (wasted) more than 20c worth of gas in line!!!!! You might think that people with a little more money choose to go to the gas station with higher prices and no waste of time, or maybe those people HAVE a little more money in the first place because they don't waste all their time trying to save 20c. Some food for thought there.
Bottom line: If I decided I had the burning manly urge to have an iPhone G4, I'd go on about my work day, and go on eBay and pay double for one from a scalper. If I spent the whole night and day waiting in line for the thing, I'd lose a lot more potential income than I'd pay the profiteer on eBay. Or more likely I'd do what I did for the iPad that I just got for my wife last week... I waited a whole, eternal, unbearable few weeks for the stores to flood with them. I walked into the Apple store, paid the regular price, and walked out... All in less than 5 minutes.
