Introducing .... the newest EF member!

Daisy_Girl

Plat Hero
Platinum
Rachel Lynn
7lbs 3oz
19 1/4 inches

My little girl came early! She caught us TOTALLY off guard, she was TWO WEEKS EARLY!

Long story short ....

My water broke Saturday night 1/14 about 8:30 - we were at home watching TV. NOTHING was ready - all her nursery stuff was still in boxes! We put the crib together before going to the hospital though. :)

Got to the hospital about 11pm, water had broken, but not contracting yet. Around midnight, they hooked me up to Pitocin, to induce contractions. It worked! Started contracting (light cramping) right away, slowly got stronger until about 2am. About 2am the contractions were really intense, I asked for some Stadol (IV pain relief). Still had intense contractions, but was able to rest a little between them.

Finally about 5am the pain was just too intense for me, and the "rest periods" were SO SO SO short (like 45sec between contractions, I asked for the epidural. OMG, the pain is insane. I completely admire those who do it naturally. Apparently, my balls just aren't big enough for that, lol. The epidural was amazing. It totally killed the pain. I was FINALLY able to sleep from about 5:30-9am.

I was woken up at 9am for an internal exam. About 10am they said I was ready to push, so I did. I pushed for about 30 minutes - about 8 sets of pushes. And she was born at 10:40am Sunday 1/15!

We were both released late last night. SHe had to stay longer because she developed jaundice. We are still watching her carefully, and she has to go to the pediatrician tomorrow for another blood draw and check on her blood levels. We have very high hopes she is improving though. Jaundice is not SERIOUS, but has to be treated.

She is simply wonderful. Mom is tired ...... We are adjusting to being at home. It is weird! :) But a good weird.

Thanks for all the wonderful thoughts over the last few months ..... keep sending us your good vibes! :)

Pics are posted for plats, I am too tired to change them over to non-plat. If someone wants to do it for me, that is fine by me. If not, I will post them larger later today........ Must.Get.Sleep.

OMG

Congrats Daisy! :rose: Get your rest sugar, Cause you have 18 years of not sleeping now.. tee hee

Congratulations Mommy:

:rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:
:rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

And for the little one :bigkiss:

Sleep EVER DAMN MINUTE YOU CAN, that's an order! Whenever that baby sleeps, you sleep! :qt:

Labor and delivery are a cakewalk compared to the next bit. You are about to learn the true meaning of the word sleep deprivation :worried: ... see ya in about three months :FRlol: (or when Rachel hits 12 pounds, whichever comes first).

Oh my gosh, I am so happy for you! Congratulations from the bottom of my heart to you and your husband. Sleep, sleep, sleep, and again...

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :) :twirl:

Congrats Daisy and Dad!!! She's a beautiful baby. I'll have to get her an Anafit cap for pictures.

LOL @ Ulter - never miss a marketing opportunity! Now if you came out w/ a product called "Power Sleep" you might have a primo opportunity to get some 1st hand recommendations....!

DG - She's adorable, but then we would expect nothing less! How long before she starts w/ the squats and what not? :lmao:

Congrats to you & hubby and let the fun begin!

Congradulations !!!!! She is absolutely the cutest newborn ever!!!best wishes ...
Good luck to you and your baby! May she get better soon and be a good sleepy baby who will let her mommy rest at all times :) !!!!

thank you everyone ..... we are so happy!

nikkita - jaundice info - http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/89.html

very common in babies, i was a jaundice baby too.
My son had jaundice too. The midwife told me if there was a warm room that had nice sunlight to let him get some naked time in the sun, that was good for it, too.

This warrants a post... Congrats Daisy! She is such a sweetheart and so adorable. You're going to make a great mom. I like her name, Lynn is my middle name too. Hope you're adjusting well.

Congrats Daisy to you and your Hubby on such a beautiful little girl, she is absolutly adorable, and I love the name. :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:
On the other hand I'm so jelous you went early...lol...I'm still here waiting for my turn, maybe you can inspire me to go early as well as I have 2 more weeks to go.

Well done......enjoy these next few months as she will grow so fast that you will wonder where your baby has gone.

Congrats...congrats...congrats.......many good vibes being sent your way.

Good luck! :) My advice ... walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.

I am convinced all the walking and standing I do all day is why I went early. ALL the pregnant women I know at work (that are teachers) have delivered early .... there are 5 total (including me). I typically am on my feet for 10-12 hours a day, easily.

AWWWWWW....Daisy, you do great work!!! Rachel is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Congratulations!

My daughter was Jaundice also. Severely, had her blindfolded under billy lights for about a week (she was 7 weeks early) - but she's perfect anyway. No worries!

Good work, Chica....that's an adorable infant. :bigkiss:

In reading your posts over the last 3 years I believe I've seen an expression of the personality traits of someone that can be a truly outstanding mother. Most any woman of child bearing years can give birth, but being a great parent is precious skill that I think you have. The world's future rests in the hands of parents, and we are all lucky you've now become one. :):)

Things are good ... I am tired, I don't get a lot of sleep at all. Longest I have slept in a row is about 3 hours - maybe. Trying to nap and not doing things around the house, but I am not very good at that. I like to do things for myself, hard for me to depend on others. I need to get over that.

Hubby goes back to work tomorrow, so I am home alone. I am looking forward to it in a way, but really do wish he was home this next week too. My parents are coming Feb 1st, his are coming the end of Feb. They are all so excited to see her!

Rachel is still adorable ... she is sleeping a lot, but starting to have more "awake" periods where she is just awake and looking around. She is now making all kinds of little noises and faces. She is funny. She took her first "sponge bath" today and was really good about it. I am pumping breast milk - since she stopped taking from the breast and still won't. I amfreezing some, and using the rest. She is getting mostly breastmilk, but I am still supplementing with formula (mostly at night) until the Pediatrician says to stop. She goes back to the doctor Tuesday night for another checkup.

I feel good, still sore, and I believe I have misplaced my ab muscles. They are totally missing in action, so my low back is very sore. I am not supposed to do ab work for 6 weeks, but I might start doing some pilates next week. I am also going to start taking short walks this week. It is going to be really hard to get back into the swing of working out - I am so flabby and soft, and get tired very easily. Plus, my hormones are still outta whack. It will be a long journey ....

But I cannot really complain - I feel good and am totally in heaven. I love this little girl!

The fun is just beginning huh? Its so nice to see you on here as much as you are able w/ the new one and getting the regular updates on our little EF girlie! Thx so much! Makes us all sooo proud!

Hey Daisy...just a thought. After I had my daughter they told me I could fold a pillow in half and lay face down on it with the pillow under my belly to get things contracting and back to normal more quickly. I'm not sure if docs still think this is ok or not, but it might be worth asking.

You'll only be jello for a short period! I'm sure the muscle is just screaming to "pop" out again! lol

Get some sleep, Girl! :)

Thank you for the update. :) For what it's worth, I think you are going to have an easy time falling back into working out. You have a new and exciting way of looking at life, which I've heard comes after the birth of a child, only a mother can understand.

There is no stopping you when you commit to a goal DG. I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again, your tranformation post is the reason I went Plat & joined EF. I cannot even imgaine the void I would have in my life if I chose not to join that day. I'm sure you've had this impact on others as well, and many more to come.

Make us proud momma :)

What a beautiful baby! Congratulations! Isin't being a Mom a whole new level of love!!

For what it's worth, (and you probably already know most of this), you may want to rethink Pilates until at least 8 weeks post-partum, and then take a post- natal class. Returning too soon on the core will only due damage to the membrane that connects your abs together down the middle of your tummy. It can actually create a buldge and could lead to an abdominal hernia..(pregnancy splits your abdominal muscles down the middle). It is important to make sure your muscles and membrane have healed before you begin any abdominal work. You can feel the gap if lay on your back with one hand on your abdomen, fingers in the middle. Breathe out, lift your head and shoulders off the floor, and clench your tummy. Feel for the gap in between your abdominal muscles. You can guage the progress of closure weekly by performing this test.

I bet you're chomping at the bit to do something, of course walking is GREAT. Another thing you can do is just lay on your back, knees bent feet on the floor, and try to locate your Pelvic Floor Muscles, hold them for ten seconds, (similar to kegals) let go and do 10 sets, you'll be one step ahead when you do start Pilates. You can also safely "find" your Glutes, (I know it sounds funny, but it works) same thing, lay on the floor, knees bent feet on floor, imagine you are trying to squish a marshmallow in your back pocket to the floor , one glute at a time (another Pilates fundamental). It's all about control, and it will actually make your glutes work without any stress to your core. You need to also be careful due to the hormone Relaxin which increases the elasticity in your ligaments, your body remains loose for up to 3 months post.
Anyway, I have lots more of safe pre 6 weeks if your interested...

I appreciate the info - this is uncharted territory for me. Any things/tips you have are greatly appreciated.

I have no ab separation at all, and even continued to incorporate mild pilates-style movements during end-stage pregnancy. I only gained 27lbs, stayed active, had no complications, etc. I know my abs are stretched out (inevitable) and can tell they need to be "retrained".

The workouts I would do are like 5 minute spurts - not a full-blown workout. Like doing 1-2 sets of basic moves. I am not even sure I have the strength to do even a beginner workout right now! I should have clarified.

I actually napped today. I feel like a slug - I am usually so active, there are a couple errands i need to run, but I need sleep more. It feels good to sleep, but I also want to go do things.

She slept in her crib for the first time last night - and I actually slept in a bed for the first time in 2 weeks ...ahhhhhh.... heaven.

We go back to the Pediatrician today, to see how she is doing, I am hoping she gained a TON of weight. :)

Not sure if I posted these pics ... but here are more of the cutie.

Hey mommy!!! :bigkiss:

Don't feel bad for napping, don't steal that time, when the baby is sleeping, to go do laundry or workout or whatever. Look, I'll tell you what happened to me ... I'm stubborn, too  I decided that I was gonna be like the women of old, giving birth in the fields and get right back to the household chores and life in general just like nothing had happened ...

Well ... more than a month after the birth the bleeding STILL hadn't stopped (I think it was about six weeks) :worried: I was told, in no uncertain terms, to STOP doing things; that my body needed to recover and I wasn't letting it. Climbing stairs carrying the laundry up and down, doing dishes by hand, moving, constantly moving, etc., was not what I needed to be doing.

See, I was thinking of birth is just like a really hard workout (like a mini-iron man thing or something), that you just need a little bit of recovery time, take a couple of days off and you can get back to your old routines. Uh-uh, you really need to think of birth more like a surgical procedure in the effects it has on your body. Be patient, take those naps when you can (guilt free!) rest, recuperate :qt: rushing trying to get rid of the baby fat isn't actually GOING to make it move faster. The hormones have to settle out and your body needs to repair before you can get your old physique back.

 for the baby :qt:

Thank you for that. I had stopped cramping and even the bleeding had slowed a lot. Then last night, I started cramping and bleeding more, plus my stitches really hurt last night .... I really think it was due to being up all day and doing things. I actually needed my pain meds, when I had been weaning off them for the last couple days.

Sharing the experiences help me understand WHY you need time off post-partum.

See, you're body is telling you, "chill" you don't want to be needing to take pain medication if you're breastfeeding, you'll get the baby all loopy :insane:

(really, you can. I had one large glass of wine at christmas and was still breastfeeding ... man that kid was looped, happy as hell, but loopy :lmao: )

See, there IS a reason why I'm a walking, talking advice machine

Honey, if even ONE thing I've been through makes it a little easier for you or someone else who's reading this thread, then I'm not sorry I run my mouth nonstop. I didn't appreciate it when I was there myself, and part of it is because I didn't know some of this stuff, and nobody was there telling me, and I'd never seen it first hand, and I made dumb mistakes because I lacked informatoin. A lot of birth/motherhood is stuff you learn FROM another mother. But we don't exactly live in villages anymore, so we turn to our e-village ...

"Overtraining = under recovery"

It is sort of a mini-ironmom thing --- but just like training for competition, recovery is a critical part of the equation :)

OMG...how cute. You are so lucky.

I like the little sea lion toy....lol

Oh wow, she is just gorgeous. So adorable. I think my time may just be coming soon. I sure hope so. I really appreciate all of your info and stories. I have to come back to this thread tomorrow and read it all.

Daisy - my biggest piece of advice during labor is to be flexible. Seriously, you have little control over the events, so know that thigns can change and that is okay. If you go in with a specific idea of what is going to happen, you will be stressed - because it is very likely it will not happen that way. You need to have your preferences and desires known, but also know that you need to do whatever will help you get through it.

Not sure if you are having an epidural - but if you are, do NOT be afraid to ask for it as soon as things become unbearable. Do not try to tough it out if you KNOW you want an epidural. That is what I did, and I spent a couple hours in intense horrible pain needlessly. I helpd out on getting the epi for some reason - even though I KNEW I wanted it eventually. Biggest mistake.

Also, I packed a TON oif stuff in my hospital bag. I used maybe 2% of it - mostly my toiletries. I did not use any of my clothes (well, 1 shirt when people came to visit) and no baby clothes. Your hospital may differ, but don't use your stuff unless you have to. And whatever they will let you take home, take it - don't even be afraid to ask for more things (i.e., more pads).

Good luck ... and ask me anything if you are wondering something! :)

Daisy_Girl said:
I am just SO BAD at taking it easy! :(
I'm wagging my finger at you, do you see me wagging my finger at you?! Like Sassy said, you are not taking it easy. You are recovering. Your insides got stretched out to accomodate a small bowling ball, and then they were further stretched in the delivery. Trying to do much before the Relaxin leaves your body is self-defeatist (maybe that's why it takes so long to eliminate???) but you suddenly have an appreciation for how much of US is held together with ligaments ...

Nice easy walks with the baby, if the weather is nice, are great, it sounds like CaliGirl has some really good suggestions. Don't think of it as being lazy.

She is so damn cute! Makes me want another but not happening. :) I agree with the epidural thing, besides that it takes and hour for the anesthesiologist to get there!! I waited as well, only using statol at the time I asked for my epi by the time he got up there to do it I was dialated to 9.

I know its hard to lay down while she is sleeping but you really have to do it, you can do laundry while she is up, dont worry about small things like that, take YOUR time and use it on YOURSELF!! :velvett: With your parents coming in and his parents coming later, they will be able to help you with things around the house and with her. Let them do it, they are there to help you. That was my biggest mistake I am like you, in control of everything, so all our parents just sat there while I cooked, cleaned, dishes, laundry, breast fed, rocked, on and on. If I only knew then what I know now. haha :baby2:

Thank you to whomever made this thread a sticky! I haven't said much, but it's great 'seeing' the little one and knowing that everything's good!

congrats hun sounds like you did good for a first baby! she is absolutely beautiful........congrats and good luck momma

I'm glad to see she is doing well. How are you and her settling in?
I can't wait to see her throughout her first months growing process.
Keep us updated as we love to hear how everything is going.

Congratulations, Atasr5!!!! He's adorable! Take it easy and relax while you can!

DG...she's getting so big already! Looks like a happy little girl! That's too bad about the bunny slippers, I LOVE 'em! lol

I just looked at your ticker I can't believe she is going to be a month already!! 24 days old, can you believe how fast time flies??? How has she been sleeping??

I can't believe it either! I was thinking about that today - she will be a month old on Sunday! I am happy - because I want her to get bigger, so we can interact more ... but I love how tiny she is now. :(

Oh .... picture from last night ... my all time favorite thus far ....

This is her saying..... "MOM! I AM HUNGRY!"

Just an update on my little fella....he had his 2 week clinic check today and I was surprised to find he has gained 1/2kg or 1/4lb on his birth weight which is great. I will have another picture of him up for you all to see tonight, as I am having trouble converting it so it will fit. I will get hubby to do that for me tonight.
DG.....how is Racheal doing?...........I can't believe she is a month old already.
My how time flys. How are you both settling in.....have you got a routine down pat with her yet?
It is great to be able to have others to chat with that have babies around the same age.
Please keep us updated as we love to hear how you and her are doing. :)

We are doing pretty well. Rachel is slowly getting on a routine, but it is near impoassible for an infant to be predictable. She is eating like a COW lately - think she is in a growth spurt or something. We go to the doctor Friday, for her 1 month appt, I cannot wait to see what she weighs/length. BUT, she gets another Hep B shot ..... I am gonna CRY CRY CRY. :(

She is still getting up about every 3-4 hours at night. I am trying to go to bed earlier - so I am getting up around midnight, 3am and 6am to feed her. But sometimes, she will only get up twice - I LOVE those nights - around 1am and 5am. But she is a good sleeper, and a really good baby. She doesn;t cry a lot - only when hungry. SHe also sleeps in her crib totally fine - which is nice.

She is starting to be MUCH more aware of her surroundings. She seems to watch my husband and I a lot more lately. She is really getting more facial expressions too ... it is funny.

I am glad your little one is gaining weight! That is great. How is he doing? How are YOU doing?

OH BARF.

I just took a 4 week post partum picture of myself - to help track progress. Oh boy I still look 5 months pregnant.

I think I am going to be sick.

What makes it really bad is that I cannot really do a lot to CHANGE this ...
I can't restrict calories or seriously diet, because that will reduce my milk.
I can't go on a true clean diet - because that is too restrictive for her, not enough vits and minerals.
I can't really workout hard - again, can reduce milk right now, and I am not cleared yet. Not to mention, I still need to focus more on sleeping.
I can't take supplements, because of the breastfeeding.

*sigh*

I can eat a little better than I have though. I have been eating some crap. I also can start doing small workouts at home. Baby steps, I guess.

Hang in there DaisyGirl. :rose: I am more bloated than you are preg at 5 months LOL
:D and what do I have to show for it? You have that adorable little angel ... Baby steps ... literally

Hey, I've been through that feeling three times now. Just remember , this is a SHORT time in life! Your little girl will get huge before you know it and you'll have plenty of time to get that body back. For now, enjoy every second you have with your little girl while she's tiny. All the stages are awesome, but the tiny one is the one I miss the most.

The milk thing too - everybody is different. Just like dieting when you aren't breastfeeding, you can experiment to get the right amount of calories. In my experience (listen to me, I'm only 28 and I sound 40!) proper hydration is by far more important than calories. Play around with your calories a bit (nothing drastic, go slow) and you'll find the right amount that gives your little girl what she needs and still lets you slowly start shedding the baby weight. And as long as you are past your 6 weeks post partum checkup, there is no reason to not train. Once again, I can tell you are a smart lady and I know you wouldn't go overboard and train hard and not eat much. The reason they warn people not to restrict calories AT ALL is because some women would start just drinking slimfast. I had a doc (who was a bodybuilder lady) give me that advice after my son was born. Too bad I didn't follow it, I'd be lean by now! LOL!
