Interesting Fact!

Believe it or not but 8.02 PM on February 20 this year will be an historic moment in time.

It will not be marked by the chiming of any clocks or the ringing of bells, but at that precise time, on that specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for1,001 years and will never happen again.
As the clock ticks over from 8.01 PM to 8:02 PM on Wednesday, February 20, time will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry 2002, 2002, 2002, or to
be more precise - 20:02, 20/02, 2002.

The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch and the 24-hour clock - at 10.01 AM on
January 10, 1001. And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again

Not in the U.S.A. it damn sure won't be. Here it will be 20:02 02/20 2002. We read our dates correctly. =)

*correct* you say warik? hmmmmm ;)

Ok smalls...

You're walking down the street.

Someone walks up to you.

"Hi smalls"

smalls: "hi"

"Hey smalls, what day is it?"

Your choices:
a) smalls: "It's 20 February 2002."
b) smalls: "It's February the 20th."

02/20 seems correct to me. =)

in my country it's day/month/year :)

I know that in Canada and many places in the world it's written day/month/year. I was talking about how it's spoken. =)

Do you say: "Today is 20 February, 2002" or do you say "Today is February 20th, 2002."

We say the latter, hence we write "02/20/2002." Just wondering if you SAY "20 February, 2002" or the other... if you say the other... then why do you write day/month/year?

i've said it's the 20th of september...

Hah... now that's an interesting fact.

I guess I will have to use some other mechanism to prove that 02/20/2002 is "correct." Perhaps my "Logic for Computer Science" book which is hundreds of pages long and is allegedly full of logic will help me. Too bad the first 160 pages contain trivial facts that are painfully obvious, yet require page long proofs.

Example: "Prove that if a conjunction has an unsatisfiable clause, the whole conjunction is unsatisfiable."

Ridiculous.

Quit trying to educate this savage, Smalls. Americans arn't ready to be part of the civilized world. They don't even use the metric system for God's sake.

That's right, and if you want to trade with us, you had better know your feet and pounds. Since we are your biggest buyer of goods, I'm sure you do.

By the way, most older Canadians I know regret coming off the English system. I'm glad we didn't after a lot of attempts to go that way in the seventies. Sometimes you've got to stick to your guns regardless of what everybody else does, you know?

:D

hey, you can be like us where the older generation in this country use the imperial system and the younger generations have been tought the metric system

as such most good like food, vegatables are sold in pounds or ounces, but thankfully fluid measurements are done in litres :D

the metric system is normall sooo much better :) its just a lot of us have got used to mph, and ft (even though i still think your height in cm is much better )

What I'm wondering is why the English express their money in "pounds" when they are supposed to be using the metric system. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to call their money kilograms? =)

we invented the imperial system of measurement dont forget. its just a remnant :)

but yes maybe it would be :D at least we got rid of groats and half pennies and shillings and stuck to whole number :D
