Like it or not, plifter has a point IN OUR COUNTRY. It has to do with the origins of the "outbreak" and who engages in the most high risk behavior. Look at Africa and you'll see a continent of heterosexuals dying from the disease. Why? It has to do with the type of high risk behavior that they engage in. This is due to local superstitiions, cultural norms, and just an overall lack of knowledge when it comes to more scientific topics.

the only reason why AIDS was a bigger threat to gays initially was that in thier prefered method of intercourse, the rectal cavity etc. has much more blood vessels running through it, therefore u have a much more likely chance of catching HIv through unprotected anal sex. i think MP5 may have posted similar stuff and most opf u (apart from some) probably know this.
vaginal sex 'was' safer as the vagina's pH means STD's were slightly harder to transmit. HIV is a virus but it is very weak structurally. but since HIV spread to the heterosexual community (thru drug usage and bisexuals with HIV), it is now both a heterosexual disease and a homosexual disease. to attempt to typecast it as their disease is possibly discrimantory at best, considering most peoploe think it strated off with dutch people trying polio vaccinations out with apes from africa. HIV can strike anyone down.

Don't know why everyone is pounding on Plifter for this particular post... perhaps he's an ass in most of his other posts, but here, he's just stating what most of us already knew and gave us a study to check out. I bet if that study said 400,00 gay men dressed very nicely as opposed to 28,000 straight men who dressed nicely, we'd all be like... "Oh, aint that the truth.", "I coulda told you that". There is undoubtedly a correlation between homosexuality and prevelance of HIV, so I'm not sure whats up with everyone screaming about being moronic assholes, and stupid fuckers. If you're tired of his posts, stooping to his level isn't going to help the situation.

In this country yes, the strains of HIV have mostly spread through homosexual and male-to-female sexual intercourse, and needle exchange. In Africa the infection rates are a/really, really scary (40% of the adult population of S. Africa and Botswana, I think); b/equally spread between men and women. For assorted reasons (uncut men, the strains of HIV in Africa) many men in Africa contract HIV from female prostitutes who work the mining regions.
But if you look at it in probability percentages - the chances for straight men in the US catching it are slim, but they're still there. Keep wearing your rubbers, boys. And there's still plenty of low-level STDs floating around out there. Anything you do sexually short of wanking by yourself runs some kind of risk, low but still there.
And bullshit that it's OUR disease. A scary percentage of adult Africans are dying right now from a disease they can't afford to treat. It affects everybody.
