Hi
My friend was a nurse before and i asked him about ,what needle size should i use 1 inch or 1 and a half inch needle...i was on deca/sust before i was using the 1 and a half inch needle ,but can i use a 1 inch instead??? in the butt ,or should i stick with the 1 and a half inch here is what my mate told me

Hi,

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Don't let
him use a 1/2 inch needle in IM injections, its not
deep enough, he could get an abcess as it won't
end up in muscle but in soft tissue- hence the scar
tissue- scars are only tiny burst blood veins.
The gram size of a needle refers only to the bore size
and you should never inject more than 3mls of fluid
through small needles, they're not built for it.
The bigger the needle the better for IM injections,
but be sensible and don't insert the whole thing or
you'll hit a nerve- as you know. Get him to use his
common sense and insert between 1 and 1 1/2 inches
of the needle into his right upper outer quadrant of
his butt and pull back making sure there is no blood
in the line. Using a smaller needle with large fluid
amounts
is a bigger risk as abcesses are nasty. IF you
accidently inject into soft tissue near the surface,
at
least it will eventually be absorbed.

what shall i use

1inch or 1/2 inch

Depends where you shoot..

I don't think the absess comes from not shooting deep enough.
Afterall, many did get absesses and used a 1 1/2 inch needle, so how to explain that.
It's not the length of the needle that counts, but you must get into the muscle.
When i shoot Winny in the bi's or tri's i use a 30 gauge 1/2 inch, so? Most Winny injected in one bi was 2 1/2 cc.
For the butt 1 inch should be fine, unless you have a "fat" ass. Always go high in the butt.

If you don't go deep enough into the muscle you will get fluid buildup between the muscle and skin. You want your shot to go nice and deep. If you are shooting into the bi's, tri's or delts, you can use a shorter needle. In the glutes I would use a 1 1/2, but if you want to go shorter, stay with atleast 1" pin.

I personnally use 1", 20gauge, and your nurse friend is right. I also talk to a nurse (friend of mine) and she told me the exact same thing. She also told me that at the hospital she's using 18gauge 1"and a half for IM injections.

So i would go with 20gauge and at least 1" for oil base.

Man a 20 gauge is a spike! A 23 or the biggest 22 is fine, And a 25 is good for shoulder, bicep and tricep injections. Why anyone would use a 20 gauge other then to draw liquid into the syringe I can not understand.
