'Indian Larry' Said Killed at Bike Show

Aug 30, 9:42 PM (ET)

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - A custom motorcycle builder known for his appearances on cable's Discovery Channel died Monday at a hospital of head injuries suffered during a stunt, officials said.

"Indian Larry" fell off a motorcycle Saturday while performing before 8,000 people at an arena outside Charlotte. He was not wearing a helmet, the officials said.

Indian Larry was standing on the moving bike when it began to wobble and went out of control, said Mike Downs, Cabarrus County deputy manager. His full name was not immediately known.

"Indian Larry was a man with great skill and talent as a mechanic and metal sculptor," said Robert Freeman, chairman of the county board of commissioners. "He will be truly missed by his fans here in Cabarrus County and throughout the nation."

Indian Larry, who appeared in movies and television shows, was featured on a Discovery Channel series in which motorcycle builders design and build bikes from scratch, then have them judged by motorcycle aficionados

WOW, thats a huge loss to the chopper industry...
I saw him do that stunt on tv when they showed the biker build off on the DIscovery Channel...

RIP "Indian" Larry

Was he the one who was riding the bike in the cylinder doing stunts at Sturgis?
Not sure about that one, but he seemed like a really cool dude on the show. I don't think he dead lifted though.

Damn....I met him at Sturgis last year. My husband and his friend build bikes as a hobby and they had some questions. He just hung out for a long time and visited, answered anything they wanted to know, autographed the back of my shirt. He was really a sweet man.

Damn

What a shame

RIP

Yep......he was a very giving dude. Very down to earth. He'll be missed.

I remember dude laying back, arms behind his head with his feet hanging over the bars while going down the highway on that show. Crazy mofo. Builds some cool ass bikes. Didn't much care for ratfink on the tank tho.

Damn........that sucks. He was a cool dude.I wish he would have been wearing a helmet during the stunt,it probably would have saved his life.

DAMN... that sucks. i liked him a lot- something about the old man was sexy. he was at the motorcycle show at the javitz center in manhattan a few months ago.

best custom motorcycle builder ever, IMO.
his bikes were sexy as hell, but the guy didn't wear a helmet.

That sucks he built some cool bikes and always seemed like a great guy. I have seen a couple of his bikes up close and they are pretty awesome.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Oh man no way! I was a big fan of Indian Larry's. His bikes were some of the best custom old-school style bikes you will ever find. I was even thinking of going to Gasoline Alley and possibly getting a custom from him. That is devestating news for the bike world. Indian Larry literally wore his motto on his neck and did some of the baddest bike tricks nobody else would do. Dude would stand on top of his bike with arms flared out ala Jesus Christ while going down the highways. His build-off against Billy Lane was, in my opinion, one of the best ones.

RIP Indian Larry
