In this thread, I e-flirt with Stefka

Now that the modafanil has kicked in I"m pestering samoth to explain string theory and the multiverse to me.
No sexy time as long as your favorite asian newb is here to pester ya, just think of me as an asian Webster....
You guys probably don't remember that show... ahead of its time. lol

Sting theory = complex mathematical construction pretty much explained physically the same everywhere by eveyone -- n dimensions, n-4 wound up in the 4 "macroscopic" dimensions we live in. Lots of complex math that can be taken in many ways. There are a bunch of string theories with different maths and number of dimensions. Collectively known as M-theory.

Multiverse = not sure if it's a technical theory per se. Probably just goes off of mathematics of basic quantum mechanics; to wit, the probabilistic universe. Everything's probabilities. Not sure where they get the everything that can happen does so in infinite quantum mechanical universes... I haven't seen where they pull that from. Might be a general thing coming from the theory.

Okay now i gotta glimpse of what they mean by M theory...
I would bug the shit out of you Samoth and yeah no sexy time for you and Stefka as long I was around.

I've found Wikipedia really good for physics and math.

The only thing is... people tend to think there's something intuitive or physical about these extreme theories. Really, it's all mathematical formalism, with the physical stuff being deduced out of the equations. Sting theories are not pretty, lol.

That's about as much non-math information as you'll find anywhere. For other quantum theories of gravity, see Penrose's Twistor Theory or Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG). I am a big fan of Penrose (see his diagrammatics link in Wiki -- amazing!) and his work. Hit up Barnes & Noble for his book The Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe. Hardcover, over 1k pages, about $40. I have his two-part monographs on twistor calculus and generalization of vectors to twistors as geometric objects, like tensors, in complex 4-dimensional space, but they're waaaaaay over my head.
