You know the narrow mindedness that has been expressed in this post is staggering. Some people are so quick to stereotype a large group. I was going to quote some of the things that were said, but it seems quite redundant. The general concensus though would seem to suggest that ALL powerlifters are fat, lazy, out of shape bastards that lack the discipline to diet and NEVER get laid. I guess someone forgot to tell the 114,123,132,148,165,181,198 classes that they have to be at 20%+ to compete. Luckily powerlifters have equipment to lift the weight for them because they are too lazy. So I guess all the lifters that compete in "raw" competitions are not considered powerlifters??!
Like I said previously not all powerlifters compete in the SHW class. Take Angelo Berardenilli for example. He competes in the 165 class and squats over 700 and benches around 500. He has totalled ELITE in his weight class. He also has his "6pack" in full effect. His bodyfat is as low as the majority of the bodybuilders on this board. Don't worry though I'M SURE that he is still jealous of bodybuilders.
What about Chuck Vogelpohl? He competes in the 242's usually and his bodyfat is always single digits, and he squats 900. I'll bet he is just ate up with jealousy.
Even Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale was between 3-6% bodyfat when he competed. Even now that he is in his 50's his bodyfat is 7% and he can squat 600lbs. How many bodybuilders can say that?
If you want the ultimate example how about KAZ??! Bill Kazmaier was the greatest strongman/powerlifter of all time.
A lat shot at 330 pounds and 7% bodyfat
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 321 to 350 lbs.
Measurements:
60" chest
23" biceps
17" forearms
22+" neck
40" waist
32" thigh
20.5" calfs
Best Lifts
Please Note that He Did Not Use Bench Shirts or Squat Suits. Also, in the Squat, He Kept his Back Perpendicular to the Ground, Not like the Good Mornings that Pass as Squats
Competition Squat: 925 pounds-wr
Competition Bench: 661 pounds-wr
Competition Deadlift: 887 pounds-wr
Total in Competition: 2425 pounds-wr
The problem with all of this is that people are using the EXTREME to define the NORM. When you do this of course your conclusions are going to be skewed. Believe what you will but for every Anthony Clark or Gary Frank...both obvious fat slobs...there is an Anthony Berardenilli or a Chuck Vogelpohl that are ripped to the bone and still lifting big.
However if it helps your ego to think that ALL powerlifters are FAT then by all means continue.
