The Bush administration is bracing for impeachment hearings in Congress.



"A coalition in Congress is being formed to support impeachment," an administration source said.



Sources said a prelude to the impeachment process could begin with hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee in February. They said the hearings would focus on the secret electronic surveillance program and whether Mr. Bush violated the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

If the dems win the House back in 06 you might be able to make some shit up to get an impeachment hearing.

Even if Dems win control of both Houses, no impeachment is going to take place. Repubs did their own hooting and hollering over Clinton, and nothing happened.

Hell, jail terms are going to reduce the Republican seats anyway.

you forgot lazy or just plain stupid. From what I understand all they had to was go to a court within three days of doing it to get a rubber stamp. Why they didnt seems to a dumb mistake in policy.

But, if impeachment were done, I think the backlash against the Democrats would be as big as the backlash against the Republicans in the off year elections where Gingrich resigned and they lost a bunch of seats in the House.
It would be viewed as Democrats trying to get back for that impeachment and also look soft on terrorism. Polls are show a split on this issue.
The argument that they cant tap a US citizen if they get an international call from a person on a terrorist watch list. Well that dog just wont hunt.

I dont think Democratic leaders would ever allow an impeachment, one might wonder if the mistake in policy was purposely done as a chess move to goad the Dems into drinking the impeachment kool-aid.
This seems to dumb of a mistake in policy with no real reason not to think it may be a vast right wing conspiracy to dupe the Dems into shooting themselves in the foot
