to anyone EVER. I had 3 people borrow money last month and not pay me back on time. Plus, someone bounced a $750 check to me, and my checking account ended up overdrawn. :redhot: Now, I'm out all the money I lent plus bounced check fees of over $200. I hate that shit.

I never lend money thinking I will get it back, so I only give people what I can afford.

That way I am never really left in a rubbish situation.

When my family asks to "borrow" money, I just tell them to consider it a gift, because I know they will never pay me back. However, I EXPECT non-family members to pay me back ON TIME. Geez, I'm the one who has diapers and formula to buy, darn it. Bums are annoying.

yep, good advice. I'm not lending anymore either, unless I'm considering it just a gift to a loved one.

Glad to see you back. :)

Sorry, a true pal would NOT hang you and Dev out to dry. You need to find better friends.

I never lend money to my family. I just give it to them. My parents did a good job at raising me but hit hard times. I owe them everything I have.

its terrible, but most of the time, friends and family will be the last to pay you back. nice to see you again HR

i learned this lesson too. only to the tune of a few hundred, but i could really use the money now, and by the time i get paid back i will probly be working again and the money wont even matter

I've lent about $1500 last month and it has cost me an additional $200 in bounced check fees. UGH.

I don't lend people money either. Call me rude however my theory is that if they cannot have the money that they need right now for whatever they need it for what makes me think they will have the money to pay me back!

damn why do so many people you know ask you for money?
i havent had anyone ask me for money since I was in college
My mom's side of the family is poor, including some of my brothers and sisters, and people assume I must be loaded because I'm a lawyer. It sort of confounds me why they think that. If I were rich, would I be driving a Ford Fusion? lol.

lol...if you do have a bit left over and give it out like a sucker, you still won't have any. ;-)

you can look at it this way.. it only cost you $750 to get rid of that person..

cheap in the long run..

I dont know If I can accept that much money. I mean if I cant pay it back you might expect some other way for me to repay the dept and now I feel cheap and slutty. Why did you do this to me? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAA (me crying) WAAAAAAAAAAA......................

If you are that giving how come we haven't had sex yet?

breast feeding is better

im a sucker like that too. i hate seeing people having problems that i can help them with. but i wont just lend money to someone i just met either. but usually lending money to a friend ends up causing tension between friends in the end cause it never works out like they say. "oh ill pay you as soon as i get paid." yea right then that time comes around and something else comes up.

I'm so broke I can't evwn buy myself plat right now :worried: And I'm not asking officernate for a damn thing. So I can't give anyone money.

Well, I am getting things lined up. Today is actually a big day..

omg! Yes, good luck with everything. You know your peeps here at EF got your back. HR will loan you all kinsd of money too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can't begin to imagine how much money my husband has dolled out over the years yet strangely when it was he that was struggling to survive ONLY ONE person paid him back the money that my old grump lent him. We are talking 500$. Which is better than nothing but good god, we are talking most likely 10's of thousands over the past 20+ years.

I am indebted to my family to the tune of well ove 250K. It KILLS me that I haven't been able to even make a dent in that.

But everyone before me that said, "Only lend what you can afford to gift" is pretty much dead on.

You are far too generous Ms HeatherRae, yet interestingly enough you don't DEMAND the same in return...

Myway - GOOD LUCK... stick to your guns and do what is best for you and the baby. I hope that you guys can resolve your situation amicably for all of you.

Thanx! I love u all. Today, we meet with a therapist.....but he blows up every damn time we talk about going. I think it's the last step. I know he's gonna walk out.....but I will know I tried. O-well. I will update. My dad is helping me with a ton of it. I'm gonna be just fine.

You really are more like a doberman than you are a cat. Once your jaw locks down, you just won't let go. :lmao:

Why are you lending money if you're spread that thin?
I wasn't spread thin until the jerk bounced a $750 check on me. I put it in the bank and thought it had cleared and Devin had to go to the doctor 2 this month because some lady brought her kid to daycare with pertussis. I had to get devin tested for it before he was able to return to daycare, which was another $500 bucks, etc. etc. UGH. :redhot: Now the dickhead puts me in the position of having to call him once a week and beg for my money back. He told me his dog got parvo and he had to take it to the vet and that is why his check bounced.

I had a friend call me and ask for 200 bux last weekend. I said no... I already do enough nice shit for my friends, money loans is not one of them. This is the same guy who has my camera and I have not seen it in a month.

Maybe if you would have made the bed you would have got a tip.

And, you should have picked up the fucking quarter off the floor!!!!!!!

I dont lend money to anyone except my sister and her husband or my sis in law

thats the best way to end a friendship

You could take my approach and never have any money to lend.
that seems to be the direction I'm going. The bank is NAILING me in penalties.

iTS HARD to say no to people though. Then you wonder if god forbid you were in that situation would you have anyone to turn to?

Sorry, but if $750 caused me to go overdrawn, I'd sure as hell call that spread WAAAYYY to thin. Keep your money in your purse and stop lending or giving it to anyone.

Nope, $750, plus over $500 in unexpected expenses at pediatrician, $500 loan to paralegal, $300 loan to sister, etc. It all adds up.

$1550 of that $2050 should've stayed in your bank account to begin with. But, as you already said, it was the $750 bounced check that caused you to go overdrawn. So, it was $750 that was the icing on the cake. If you can't afford to lose it, you shouldn't lend it.

no doubt...thus the thread title.

I loaned my cousin about $1500 a few weeks before x-mas of 05. I was promised to be paid back in a week or two cause his $$ was tied up(long story). He never attempted to pay me back and it was money I was going to use for x-mas gifts. Instead of paying me back he lied about what the money was for and used the money to put a down payment on an engagement ring for his junkie gf that robbed him out of over $20k and also I found out they were doing oxycontin and later herion. I about killed him in front of our whole family.
