I'm getting MARRIED!!!!

Well, if you read my other thread ( http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=392673 ), you'd know I have been deciding on whether or not to ask my gf to marry me. She came up here to VA where I live this weekend, and I decided to do it.

Due to our 1800 mile distance from each other, most likely our engagement will be a long one, maybe 6 months to a year or so. I'm not sure when she's going to move up here; she's having to move 1800 miles from everything she's ever known, all her friends, family, etc. I completely understand, and I told her that she can come when she's ready to, that I'll be waiting here with open arms.

YES, I'm 22. YES, I'm young. But I love her. IT WILL WORK.

I want to thank you all for your input on my situation, your help IS APPRECIATED.

a) aren't most engagements around a year?

b) while I (of course) don't condone marriage at such a young age, I wish you the best and hope you prove me wrong by living a long, happy life together. Best of luck bro!

:xeye: well i'm not really sure, but from what I've seen personally, its normally 6 months or so. but that's in my limited experience...
 
Congrats!

Many people wait about a year to get married. But that is mostly due to the time it takes to picka location, set up all the food, band, photog, etc. It also depends on how many people you are having. The more people at the wedding, the more complicated it often gets. So the engagement is longer.

I moved across country for my then-BF (MD to Vegas). I had ALWAYS lived in the East. We are now married. :)

Our engagement was 3 months. :) But we had a very small wedding - about 20 people and no bridal party. I never wanted a big wedding with all all the people and fuss. To me, it is a waste of time and money. But that is just me - I'm a no-fuss kinda girl.

Thanks for the advice, bro. There are a lot of young people that get married and have a long life together... for example, my parents, my dad was like 22-23 and my mom was about 20. They're going on 30 years of marriage now. Of course I realize that times are different, but my girl and I have at least some of the same values from those days.

Work hard maing, you're young and sound like you're just starting out. All bullshit aside, money is a major issue in marriage. Make certain you can really afford to support another person and your willing to assume that responsibility

Hmmm ...... we worked together for a couple months before getting involved, then dated casually for a couple months. Then he moved back to LV (I was still in MD). We were cross country for 6 months before I moved out there. Long distance does suck. When I moved to LV, we moved in together immediately.

Sooooo ..... we were dating for about a year before moving in together. Then we lived together for about 2.5 years before getting engaged.

Go through some counselling before the wedding! That's what we did and I'm SO glad that we did so.

Weddings are great as long as you remember that it's just one day-- just a party. If you realize that nothing is ever perfect and go with whatever happens, all will be well.

Listen. We are not wedding haters. We are simply telling you to wait!!! Live in sin for a few yrs. What is the rush? You have 50 more yrs left on this earth. So, just relax!! She is not going to leave you if you don't get married. And, if she does....its better now than 3 yrs down the road with a kid or 2.

Its going to be a while, that's for sure. Its not like we have a date set or anything yet. When we both feel its time, we'll go through with it, and not a minute sooner. Oh... and i'm not having kids until I leave the navy. And it won't be humanly possible for that to happen before we get married anyways, if you get my meaning. :coffee:

In reality it is the exact opposite.

I am not married, because I'm not afraid the girl I am with is the only girl I will be able to have sex with. So, I'm able to walk away when the bullshit starts coming. (Someday I hope to meat a girl who is perfect for me, and vice versa)

Many of the guys who get married are afraid that they will not be able to get laid. So, they latch onto them and put up their shit, their families shit, their ex's shit, and their kids shit....All because they are afraid to lose the pussy.

ok so when you say I'm buying all the groceries, that means like I give you a piece of paper to write down all the stuff you need to cook, and you go get them?

and as for service charges, I'd offer the SFIP (sexual favors installment program) but I'm pretty sure my fiancee would be relatively pissed, so I guess you'll just have to recieve payment in the form of personal satisfaction. Don't worry, I tip a lot. "You look nice" or "food tastes good, not quite 4 stars, ok well maybe like 2.5-3 stars, but its still pretty edible".

Who could resist such an offer? I'll see you tomorrow morning. I get up at 5am, so I'll need breakfast ready by that time. ;)

Oh, bro. I just remember a story about one of my best friends.

He was dating this chick for atleast a yr. Half of the time he was gone for traning for the Air Force to be an Air Traffic controller. This girl was a preachers daughter, very nice, pretty, virgin, etc. I even thought she was a perfect girl. Anyways he get transfered to a base to be an air traffic controller. Also, he said she would go home every few weeks. But, she being the sweet innocent preachers daughter said nothing was going on. I told him to go through her shit and find what mail she is getting. (We are Old Skool. This is before email lol) Anyways, she had been seeing some guy from her home town for almost a yr. Of course she still denied it and wanted to get married. Later he found out she was messing around with a guy on the base, because she married that guy and had a kid. (later divorced)

10 yrs later my friend says the best decision in his life was to wait!! He says this often. He was able to mature, date lots of different women, travel, and find out who he really was. (and bang alot of girls and had a threesome)

Anyways...Now he is a civilian Air traffic controller with a degree making great $. He married a great girl at age 33. (Who is hot, cool as hell, and RIACH BIACH!!!!) He lives in a great house and just had a kid. All of our other friends are jealous of him and they are on their second wives.

10 yrs later my friend says the best decision in his life was to wait!! He says this often. He was able to mature, date lots of different women, travel, and find out who he really was. (and bang alot of girls and had a threesome)

Anyways...Now he is a civilian Air traffic controller with a degree making great $. He married a great girl at age 33. (Who is hot, cool as hell, and RIACH BIACH!!!!) He lives in a great house and just had a kid. All of our other friends are jealous of him and they are on their second wives.

Interesting story. Well, like I said, we're going to live together for a while before we actually tie the knot. Probably 6months-1year after she moves in, assuming all goes well, we'll get married. (she's probably not going to move down here for a while, though).

Yeah bro, this guy is the nicest guy in the world. I can still remember over 10 yrs ago talking on the phone with him...telling him to hold strong and not give in to getting married right away.

lol. I remember him calling me upset when he found out. I told him to drive back home and return the engagement ring before she convinced him to still get married. He got in to town and we raced to the mall, but they had they bars pulled down, because they had just closed. I kept rattling the bars until they came out. He exchanged the ring through the bars.lol

(BTW. He didn't sit and cry about it on the internet. I took him to a party and got him LAID!!!!!!!!!)

Also, I was his best man and right before the he got married he pulled me aside and said thanks for backing him when he was going to get married before. He said he is so happy and he is so glad he waited until he actually knew what he wanted and then found it.

Oh Atarias. My other friend who wanted to live with his gf got the same shit from her parents. Except they told him "he would turn her into a whore" if he didn't marry her first. lol

Anyways, he married her. Didn't finish school and got a good paying job in a factory. They had a kid and he found out she was banging his brother. (I swear to God....and this was even before Jerry Springer lol)

Well, he lost his house, got a divorce, and started paying child support. He was so hurt. (like anyone would be) He got married a yr later. Now, he has his kid with his first wife, one with the new, the new wife had 2 kid, and her daugher just had a kid. So, he works his ass off jsut to support them all. He is the nicest, hardest working guys around. However, his factory is slowing down and may be closing. If it does there is no place around he can make enough money to pay for everything. He is so upset he didn't wait on marriage. He was going to school to be a nurse before he got married. :(

that definantly sucks :( at least I'm in the military and have a stable source of income for a while...

Once again, I really appreciate your chiming in on this. I don't want to believe that of her, but I know this isn't a perfect world. She's been hurt before, by her ex-fiancee... I just want to be the one to heal those wounds. I just hope I don't get any of my own in the process.

Just be prepared for no one to want to listen or care if u start having problems or get a divorce. None of us have sympathy for people who didn't put enough thought and consideration before making that plunge. If they won't listen to us when we become "evil" and tell them not to get married -- we won't listen when it doesn't work out and we're so holding back from saying "told ya so".

Agreed. Im 20 and couldnt possibly imagine getting married anytime soon.
