:bawling: You guys........ I just had my bf % done. AND i found out my weight by accident! (i try not to look at it b/c i deal with mind issues on that subject. ) I'm 139 pounds!!! 20.98% bf, and almost 5'4" . I've never weighed 139 in my life!!!! I know i have a good bit more muscle, and by NO means would i call myself fat. But i cried through most of my morning workout today. Ever since new year's i ve been eating clean and not making myself throw up. (until last night =(. But i dont get it!!!!!!! Help me please! =((( Im a mess~!

That's always the most painful part about fitness. I'm nearly 40 and finally bought a scale. It's a digital scale & after I opened it up I couldn't even get up the nerve to go on it first -- I made my cat sit on it. (Poor kitty.) I also own a shitty bioimpedence bodyfat meter which I know isn't correct, but it will allow me to track the differences week to week. And finally I bought the calipers for skin fold but only just today found someone at my gym who can do the measurements correctly. I can't reach teh back of my tricep to do it myself.

So, you find out the actual number. Consider this your baseline. Now focus on how you feel relative to how your clothes fit. My weight hasn't fluctuated much more than maybe 5 lbs since Thanksigiving but I've gone from having all jeans that are too tight to some that are too loose and I'll be droppinig them in the dryer soon to get them to fit better now.

It sucks getting past the initial shock, but when you start seeing the changes goign forward, its much better. If it does anything for you, I've got the skin fold measures from this morning, but I haven't run the numbers yet to get the bf. I have a feeling I'm not going to be real excited about it. However, I know I'm better than I was before and I'm getting better each week.

Yes, you are freaking yourself out!! Stop!!

Stop & think about it -- you can be 139 pounds & go from a size 12 to a size 4 without necessarily losing numerical weight. So stop obsessing over that scale weight. Your bf% is in the "Fitness" range for women........

you go girls...
and Believenme... you have to change your way of thinking... that is not healthy

Dangit Jen. Couldn't just let me get away with it ;) Let's beat her diet till we wean that .98% away

Sorry, I am no fun!!

Blanket Party in the parking lot!! Ivory Soap in a towel for everyone!!

I hear ya totally. My situation is kinda similar. I freaked too and was a little snot almost the entire night after weighing myself and getting bf test. I thought it would motivate me, but instead it worried me. I guess because the numbers were WAY higher than I ever thougth they would be.

I realized worrying about it won't help change anything. I turned my negative thoughts around by focusing on the end result. It's not like I'll be in those ranges for long, you know? Keep focused on the diet, training, and know that in time it will change with dedication and focus.

I posted a plan of action on the fridge outling excatly what I need to do. I also added some of Arnold's quotes that I read daily to help.

Stay strong!

Hi girls!!! Sorry its been like a week and a half since i had "access" to write back. I'm now over the initial shock. =) I normally do 45 minutes of cardio on an empty stomach, then weights and more cardio in the evenings. I eat about 5-6 meals a day. Im vegetarian, and iin the am, after cardio i usually have a scoop of protein with 1/4 cup oats. (3 hour intervals) then an apple, then a salad of some king w/ a veggie patty, and some good fat like olive oil. Then a detour bar low carb kind....evening workout, then another protein shake or salad with egg whites. I usually eat pretty much the same things all the time. I started my eating better on the 1st of Jan. Another prob. im having, is no matter WHAT i do. I stay bloated and gassy. Its embarassing, and painful. And i wonder if its all the splenda i eat, or "manufactured" protein? My best girlfriend used to train and she told me she thinks im eating too much protein. But God, i mean, i dont eat meat, so i have to get ir, right? Anyhow. Theres some info. Let me know what ya think =) THANKS Y'ALL ;)

1 - Take a deep breath

2 - STFU

3 - ACCEPT the numbers as they never lie

4 - decide a plan of attack - I suggest at least reading the sticky on Shadows Project

5 - Post publically what you are going to do

What kind of protein powder are you eating?
You eat egg products? Milk?
Whey allergy? (whey and soy protein is like a nightmare for me)
How much splenda do you eat?
Do you eat beans/legumes?
Post every you eat - like a list of foods.

The best advice I've ever gotten from the board is to use your mirror and the way your clothes fit as your judgement. Look at everything else as just numbers. I know how you feel. A month or so ago I got on the scale weighing 253 lbs. I almost died, as the last time I had been on the scale was years ago and I weighed a much lighter 160. I now weigh 240 and I'm not getting back on the scale. It moves way too slow for me and it's very discouraging. I now just use the mirror and the way my clothes fit, and I eat much cleaner, and actually partake in activity that requires me to move. I realize now that the weight didn't add up over night, and I'm not gonna lose it over night either. I'm glad I came across this board as the people here are very encouraging and helpful. I"m gonna post up my food journal and this way I can be corrected along the way with any boo boos I inadvertently make. I wish you luck on your journey. Keep your your chin up and dry your eyes. You are your own worst enemy. Anything you desire you shall have, if you stick with it!

Ok, a list of foods. I dont eat beans. I do eat egg whites. I mainly do eat whey protein with my oats. Could be a problem?....Im pretty sure i dont have a lactose prob. But, maybe another allergy? I dont eat bread. My oats are the only starchy carbs i get. I eat alot of salads. Veggies. No diet soda's, B/c of the bloat. (god i miss 'em!) i drink coffee, water, and crystal light. I chew ALOT of sugar free gum. The stomach issues have progressivly gotten worse! I even tried Super Dieter's tea last night....and Stillllll nothing! My colons on lock down!!! OOOOOOh nice!!!!

So what do you eat? I don't see much listed?A lot of raw veggies are harder for your digestive system to break down. How are you preparing them?

found this off a search when i was looking up stuff for IBS for my sister

Dietary Factors: A major source of gas is ingestion of complex carbohydrates (e.g., raffinose, stachyose, verbascose) that cannot be broken down into component sugars for absorption.5 These undigestible carbohydrates then serve as substrates for bacterial fermentation, yielding gas as a by-product. The patient teaching aid information page describes specific foods that tend to cause gas, since diet can be manipulated by the patient. However, a few additional dietary points deserve consideration. Sugar-free foods often contain sorbitol or fructose, which are both poorly absorbed in the small intestine. This poor absorption leads to gas.2 Sorbitol is one of the hexitol sugar alcohols, frequently implicated in the condition known as "chewing gum diarrhea" or "dietetic food diarrhea."6 Thus, the patient who chews sugar-free gum to control caries and the diabetic patient who utilizes dietetic foods to control weight are at high risk of flatulence and diarrhea. Reducing intake of sugar-free foods may help prevent gaseousness.

OH MY GOD!!!! LMAO!!!! Im at the gym right now checkin my e mail, and read your follow up posts, and could not stop laughing!!!! Is there a sf gum anonymous!!!? Can i join? The gyst of my diet is sorbitol, and sugar alcohals. Uh, duh! Truth is, all i crave is protein shakes and bars. True it keeps the weight down, but my stomach continually looks like im 5 months pregnant, because of the gas. AND i have a hot date fri. "blind date" EEEK!!! Gotsta get rid of this prob. b4 then. Hmmm, lots ta think about! Thanks detectives! I'll try to simmah- down-now on the "splenda's" n such ;)
