In the same boat as you, going back to school after a long layoff, got my associates degree but decided its not what i want to do for the rest of my life, so back i go with a Biochem major this spring, should be interesting to see if i can handle work,school,life. Best of luck Cas.

i will be starting fresh with a biochem major, possibly minor in biology, use that as a stepping stone toward medical school and ultimately end up in research...such as a research physician position in endocrinology.

Yeah. College is a lot of friggin' drudgery, that's for sure. With something like lifting, you're getting little rewards all the time. With school, motivation is harder to come by (for me, anyway) because the tangible rewards don't come for years. It's like lifting your ass off for four years or more for the day when you'll finally have sixty pounds of muscle plunked down on your frame all at once. It's hard to visualize distant rewards as reality. My family always valued intellect, but never material things, so I've been more free to question the value of school than some. That's a good and a bad thing. Sometimes things are easier to do when you feel like you really have no choice.

Hell, I could go on for awhile talking about why I haven't gotten my degree yet, but the important thing is that I feel like I'm ready to get back in there.

I'm a full time appointed staff member at the main library on campus. I even have a title- LAT I, or Library Academic Technician, level I. LOL. So yeah, I get classes for $5 a credit hour plus activity fees, and I can study a little on the job. It's a pretty cool deal. I'll probaby go full time next fall. This is kind of a warmup.

I never pictured you with that sort of job. Yes, that's a cool deal because you get great benefits like that $5 per credit hour fee..good luck to you!

The logic everyone throws at me when it comes to why I should go to college is that it's free because I have a scholarship.

Um... ok. $1,500 a semester x 8 semesters = $18,000. I could have earned that in a year if I wasn't too busy wasting my time at school. Instead I've spent 3 years being taught what I already know or what I will never need to know. Thank God almighty that it will all be over soon. I think I will take a pair of headphones and a book to graduation in case they try to brainwash me with some extra shit during the ceremony. I will then celebrate the same night with a mass purging of college information through many hours of video games and Star Trek episodes. Once I've purged my mind of all the college BS, it will be safe to get back to work in the real world.

i've got 34 hours with a 3.94 GPA (not like it matters), and it sucks how bureaucratic colleges are.

I just want some kind of technicians degree (pharmacist technician, dental assistant, etc) so i can make $10 an hour to pay my way through college (the only other option is $5.15 at a service job as far as i can tell), but the state board won't license online or distance education in these fields. It fucking sucks, i'm beginning to see why some of you hate bureaucratic governments so much now. I could learn to be a pharmacists technician in 4 months if i wanted, but i'd have to take some shit slow 10 credit hour a semester for 2 years with people with 85 iqs to get accredited. Just let me learn at my own pace please. I can learn this shit pretty fast if i want to/need to.

This is off topic, but where else could i post it? i didn't want to start my own thread.
