If the rubber was exposed I wonder if "someone" had taken out some of the gear and then replaced the amount removed with oil. So I wouldn't buy gear that didn't have the cap in place.
The next point is pasteurization and sterilization. Pasteurization is the heating of food, usually milk, to a temp of 145 degrees for fifteen minutes or 165 degrees for five minutes. This does not sterilize the food but does give a five log drop in the bacterial count. This allows it to be stored in a refrigerator for a few weeks. To sterilize something you need to have it under much higher heat and much higher pressure. This is why autoclaves are used to sterilize instruments. But even an autoclave will not kill many viruses so today gas is used for sterilization. So baking the gear at 250 is really only pasteurizing the gear not sterilizing the gear. This might kill enough of the bad guys to get you by or it might not.
In my opinion it's not worth it. What are we talking about, a couple hundred dollars? Or your death? You choose.
The vial did have the center cap on it. You know the money for the gear isnt a big deal....I have money to buy more test but its the source thats a problem. The only sources I know have minimum orders....which I dont have money for. I have already started my cycle and if I trash everything now....there goes my whole cycle. This is definitely a risk though...I just wish I had more options.
