LOL, i just got CPR certified and my instructor said the same thing. He would always help out a kid, but an adult .... I couldn't believe he was that direct to the class.

as I noted above, all reputable first aid certification agencies teach chest compressions only now - in part for reasons stated here, and in part because frequently people end up blowing air into the person's stomach and causing damage (and chest compressions are really what counts for cardiac arrest).

lol reminds me of what we were taught about whether or not we are legally required to help someone in a situation like that one.

First of all, nobody is ever required to help someone else out, regardless of your profession etc.
It's all about whether or not your actions leave the person in a worse off situation than they were before I wanted to help. This does not apply o things like breaking someone's ribs when you do cpr (which by the way happens most of the time). Being a good samaritan will almost always clear you.

But say someone was out aways from the beach drowning and a out of a crowd, I said, hey I'll go rescue them. I get half way out, realize I cant make it and come back. The person drowns. Now, I am legally liable if there had been someone who COULD have made the swim, but they didnt act because I volunteered.




But yeah, I agree.....the shark wins. lol

if there's ANYTHING that you can do for someone, whether it's call for ambulance, check to see that they might be sick/injured, etc, if they know who you are and you just did nothing, I've written several bonds for "Failing to stop and render aid", I hate to know what the judge would do if an RN or DR just stood around and did nothing in a case of sickness or accident.

In the case of this damn shark, nobody expects anyone to go beyond a resonable persons ability to help, if your not in a boat, they would expect you to call for authorities, that's about it.

I could be getting shanked to death and screaming help and no one would come. Yet a women starts screaming theres a lil dog stuck in a car with the windows only cracked 5inches and shes probably gonna have a lynching posse ready to help.

I don't swim in the ocean. I have caught 100+ pound bull sharks in the surf. Those fuckers will bite you in half. I was once wade fishing waste deep in the inlet and something big bumped my leg and almost knocked me over. It was a fucking manatee. I almost shit my pants.
