I want to try hang gliding

I've always wanted to, but the places around me have low hills (ie less then 10 feet) to try it out on for a first timer.

Just saw that on the travel channel!
Looks like fun, but it is so dangerous.

Would love to try hang gliding, bungee jumping, parachuting...but it's all (arguably) life risking stuff so I'm reticient because I've only got one (life that is).

I have recurring dreams that I can fly. It seems so peaceful in my dreams. At one time I wanted to be a pilot in the Air Force but the recruiter said I would never make it past the eye exam. I looked into the civilian route for being a pilot and it's just more money than I can afford. Hang gliding seems like more fun than an air plane and it doesn't cost as much. If you watch hawks, they are the ultimate hang gliders.

If you're willing to do it, I say go for it. I'm not sure gliding would be all that peaceful however, I'd imagine it would be quite stressful as you'd have to concentrate. Why not do a parachute jump, you'd be in freefall for a significant distance, that's got to feel cool.

It’s the crashing into a mountain at neck breaking speeds that keeps me from that stuff. Not the dying part, but the I-am-paralyzed-for-life part, u'kno?

Actually parachuting is statistically extremely safe. Without a doubt the hugest physical thrill you can possibly experience while only be exposed to a tiny amount of actual danger.

It's actually only really stupid scary the first few seconds because you're fighting against this tremendously powerful self preservation instinct. Once you fall for several seconds though, and nothing happens, you settle down and can enjoy the thrill. It get's a bit scary again as the ground approaches though.
