i want to break up a pet breeding monopoly

i am a 100% dog lover, however, our apartment does not allow dogs...and we still have at least 2 more years here (grad school).

any ideas how to go about doing this?

my girl wants a pet cat, but i am super allergic to them - itchy eyes, hives, etc.

well, they have hypoallergenic cats that don't produce a certain protein that most people are allergic to. sounds great, right? wrong.

these fucking cats are $900 each...for a cat! i could maybe understand paying that much for a really awesome dog...but a cat? come on, now.

so, i was like, 'sure, go get one...but you better breed the damn thing at least once to get our money back.' and herein lies the problem. every last breeder makes you sign a contract saying you will have the cat spayed/neutered and you won't breed it. you even have to send in a copy of the vet work as verification.

and these are breeders nationwide.

i'm not that fond of cats...but i hate monopolies more. how could i go about breaking up their little party without getting sued in the process?

these people are simply taking advantage of people with allergies and price gouging them as a result.

find a dead cat, get it stuffed, then tell her it likes to sleep all the time.

She's going to have to do without the cat....end of discussion.

i don't give up that easily.

i have a friend moving back from germany, and they are pretty common cats there. i'm thinking about having him pickup a kitten before he comes back.

They gonna make her move out?

oh, they would cancel our lease in a heartbeat.

to get a dog friendly place in my area, expect to spend $200 more per month + plop down a $500 deposit with which you only get $200 back.

it's insane.

oh yeah, that $200 more per month is not even considering the monthly 'pet rent' of $50/month.

it's robbery.

we lived in a town home like that.......when our lease was up, we found a house for rent that was another 350 sq ft, yard and all for only 50 bucks more a month so we could get our dog.....renting sucks sometimes.
