Companies will either:

1) pass the cost along to the consumer by jacking prices up even more

or

2) pull up stakes from the US and relocate their headquarters to a tax haven country


Bottom line...they can afford to wait out the US government on this issue. They turn off the pumps, and the country grinds to a halt. They own the oil, and it's not going anywhere...time is on their side.
