I want a Tommygun....

This situation resolves itself in just a few years with the laws and executive orders we have now.

Let's assume his criminal record is still sealed a few years from now.

His health records will be in an PPACA (Obamacare)-compliant Electronic Medical Record (the specific term for compliance is actually "meaningful use"). Those records will be sent to CMS (per existing Obamacare law) and distributed to federal agencies (per the second executive order Barry signed a few weeks ago). His meds, therapy, etc. etc. will all be available.

We're trading a huge amount of privacy for an uncertain amount of security. I sure hope the juice is worth the squeeze.

well his health records are a result of his criminal activities. I'm not for people's use of anti depressants making it into their record if they have no violent history associated with it. Here there is quite a clear cut and compelling corrolary between his health and criminal records. I mean it couldn't be more clear cut if you tried to write it yourself. Fine, in our coutnry if you kill your family before you turn 18 you can pay to have those records expunged and get a nice office job....but purchasing firearms? Really...?

Any crime you commit and are punished for as a child can be sealed when you become an adult. You have to pay to have those records sealed. This isn't the case if you are a minor charged as an adult, or a minor who transfers into adult custody when you come of age.

him offing his mother for what I'm assuming is no real good reason given that it wasn't stated, by I will look into it more.....absolutely has to preclude him from purchasing firearms (especially assault weapons) for the rest of his life. I think even the NRA people are like how the fuck did that dude get guns?

No, access to his health records will be a consequence of all the trade-offs voters are choosing between perceived security and freedom.

And initiatives such as Obamacare and the gun control changes will interact with each other. So while they cost us freedom on an individual basis, they'll work in concert to eliminate even vastly greater amounts of privacy and freedom.

But don't worry, the politically-connected and wealthy will be just fine. We'll see a growing number of boutique physicians who don't participate in federally-funded programs who aren't required to submit medical records to CMS. The wealthy can use them to stay off the health care informatics grid.

I don't think you understood what I was saying...he was institutionalized because he killed his mother. What I'm saying is he should have been flagged somehow, that's a heck of loophole don't you think? Just kill who you need to before you turn 18 and you're golden on buying firearms later in life.

So we carry over a minor's crimes (when tried as a minor) into adulthood?

the state may deem him rehabilitated enough to return to society but you "have" to draw that line at firearms. I think even you can agree in this case this dude should have been flagged in the system somehow. If it requires a new law so be it but something tells me there probably is something on the books somewhere about keeping violent youth offenders flagged on firearm purchases. If not one has to be made. This guy was time bomb, clearly what he was dealing with early in life didn't go away.
