This is why we have background checks, this needs to be stringently investigated as to how this guy passed the check. I mean holy crappissus...if a guy who offed his mom as a jeuvenile can get a liscense to acquire weapons through private dealers, I mean wtf? well if the BCA had this guys true history he wouldn't have been able to purchase that kind of firepower. So I dunno about a new law because I don't know if an existing one was broken or not. The dude killed his mother as a juvi so i'm assuming that's where the problem lies. It's like letting the menendez brothers arm up if/when they ever make parole. Ridiculous.

The article itself said that the reason he was able to acquire the guns was because his name didn't show up anything on the background check. I'm assuming you've never bought a gun since you have no idea how it works.

As far as background checks between individuals, I think we can give that up, if we must.

Probably didn't show up on the list since he killed his mother as a child and was declared insane. I'm no law expert, but I'm fairly certain the institutionalized don't show up on the same list as felon's and he most likely had those records sealed when he became an adult anyways.

Well there lies your problem, if that's how it works.

Either way, the government was at fault here for letting him slide through the cracks of the background checks. RS clearly thought he was being clever and proving something to us gun nuts by posting this his reasoning for why we need background checks. But it really proves nothing.

if we "must"? See I thought this was already law. I thought this was an internal failure and that the laws are just fine. Your comment makes me wonder? So currently people with "extremely" violent backgrounds, I'd say offing your mother qualifies, as long as they did it as a juvi it never shows up in the BCA database? Tell me that if it had been post juvi it would have shown up, at least tell me that.

Any crime you commit and are punished for as a child can be sealed when you become an adult. You have to pay to have those records sealed. This isn't the case if you are a minor charged as an adult, or a minor who transfers into adult custody when you come of age.
