seein all those bad asses in that magazine floors me...the only thing I don't like about flex is all the supplement b/s.

buy this supplement it will make u big (of course weider gets a kick).
No buy this one you will grow huge like your bodybuilding hero's

all b/s

It should teach you fundamentals and truths about steroids and steroid use, because we all know...thats the way to look like those mofo bodybuilding juice induced mofo's

Try purepowermag. ( http://purepowermag.com ). They have some adverts but none of the articles tries to push a product. The mag focuses on the science behind the lifts and strives to determine what works, how and why.

It's very light on tanned, glistening muscle but it does have some decent pics of serious weight being moved.

The ABSOLUTE WORST mag I've ever seen is planet muscle. Not only does it blatantly tout supps as being fundamental to progress, but it pushes natural bb'ing while showing pictures of major juice hogs. To make matters worse, it's loaded with typos. Check one out next time you're at the store. It's pretty funny.

I subscribe to M&F and Ironman. I just sort through the crap.
You gotta realize that most of those mags are touting the supps that sponsor the mag. The best thing to remember is lift hard with correct form and eat right (and enough). This does wonders.

Solid advise

Why subscribe to a commercial magazien (flex, M&F, MD,...) when you van have better advice here w/o all the crappy ads

I "occasionally" will pick up M&F or Flex. I think if you are intelligent enough to be able to sort through the bullshit, you can probably find a few decent tips in each mag, plus it could be inspiring if you are a BBer and enjoy the pics. They need to throw more chicks in them though.

You know what i am talking about Killahbee

the problem with those mags is:
a. they are sponsored by the supps. so all the advice and ads will support major suppliment usage.
b. they need to fill up an entire magazine every month. you can't do that if all you have to say are the basic principals of working out and throw in one or two routines per month and an interview. so, they need to elaborate. a LOT. whole articles devoted to triceps, and whole routines devoted to triceps, and the overworking of your triceps and suppliments to take to get your triceps to grow cause they aren't, and pictures of guys who's triceps DID grow cause of the suppliments they take and amazingly, also get paid to promote...

I am subscribed to flex and find it redundant.Same articles different guys. No recipies or nutrition info. I do find a few usefull things in each issue but I dont think its worth the money. Next I think I will subscribe to muscle and fitness. Its geared less toward Bodybuilding and more towards diet and fatloss. Although it does cover bodybuilding aswell.

I have two fundamental problems with flex.

1. They list impossible workouts that the pros don't eve do in real life.

2. They use fake plates to show the guys lifting way more weight than they are capable of.

I remember the old days of flex when they had articles about how to tell if your steroids were fake and stuff. My bro still has some of those old issues, they didn't have very many adds then, and actually had solid advice.

Cheers,

I used to pick up Muscular Development but it sorta turned into a gossip mag (Gregg Valentino as a columnist???) & less good training articles. When they got rid of Carlton Coker, they lost credibility imo.

I still pickup M&F.

Just like muscle media before the MM2000 days.

I am thinking on picking up either PLing USA or Milo.

AGREED

I haven't bought one of those magazines in ages. Most are a collection of ads with a few pages of relevant information thrown in.

Go on, I'll bite. What Federov cat?

Ok, I just did a google. Looks like there's some BBer called Federov.
I thought you must be referring to a feline of a breed called Federov.
;)

Milo and purepowermag are my mags of choice. Milo has no advertisements, only quality info.

Would you rather pay another $5-10 more for a magazine that's ad-free? The ads in the magazine makes the publishing of the magazine cheaper. If you've been in the game long enough, you should know by now what to listen to and don't. The ads aren't that bad anyways.

its not necessarily the actual ads that are the problem- its the fact that the magazine is pretty much run by the suppliment companies.

Agreed. That plus the fact that many of the adverts pose as articles. You begin reading the 'article' until you realise it's spouting some crap about a supp then the penny drops. Does anyone have any estimate of how much of an issue of Flex or M&F is actually non-advert? Maybe the table of contents but even that will have ads plastered all around it?

The picture from Flex that's indelibly etched in my mind is that pic of 2 pro BB's I think Kevin Lavrone and Gunther Schlierkamp teaming up on barbell curls with something like 315...standing side by side with 2 sets of hands on the bar and a look of pure anguish on their faces as their heaving the weight up.

I think that spread had them double teaming a leg press too with something like 5000lbs.
