I was working chest yesterday with my two partners. Both are very accomplished body builders and fortunately for me they have taken me under their wing for training. I'm happy as hell.
While working incline press I was so focused on moving the weight that I was missing a key element. As I looked around I noticed that almost everyone makes the same mistake.
Being the dedicated brutha that I am I wanted to share my revelation with you all to hopefully help those who can benefit from this advice I was given. Let me try to explain what I have learned.
When working incline press I was told a couple of very interesting facts. The most important of which was that it is very important to pinch the shoulder blades together and really force the chest and pecs forward. I didn't understand this until yesterday.
As I worked through my first set I was not performing the movement correctly. My partner, thankfully, fixed my form and explained what I was doing wrong. During my next three sets I worked to correct the problems I was having.
I pinched my blades together, forced the chest out and brought the hands forward with an intense squeeze at the end of the movement. After three sets my chest was so full and tight it felt like it was going to burst.
I'm learning a lot about this kind of stuff lately but I guess the moral of the story is to make sure that you are performing the movements correctly. Moving the weight simply isn't enough.
There is a very interesting law in business known as the "law of depreciating returns". I find that this law applies to everything we do in life especially in training. The law is very simple and goes something like this. ( If a person does the same thing, the same way, over a long period of time the returns or benefit will depreciate in value. Interestingly enough with a slight adjust on words this also becomes the definition for insanity) It's very simple but very true.
This law in essence states that we must always learn better, more effective ways to train our bodies. Fortunately, I was corrected in something I have been doing wrong for a long time. I'm hopeful that now that I have made a good change I will see even bigger and better results.
I hope I have managed to help someone with this post. I got a bit side tracked but there is something worth value in there.... I hope.
