she just got her drivers license 2 months ago and was driving past my house on her way home.
She said an animal of some sort darted into the road (although she had food on her front seat and couldn't identify what kind of animal it was, so my guess is that she was eating and on her cell phone- she said something about how she was talking to her boyfriend). She rounded the corner at the top of the mountain and then saw the mystery animal and lost control... over compensated and possibly stepped on the gas instead of the break.
she went over a steep embankment, around a telephone pole, careened over some large boulders, then started heading over the side of the mountain but got stopped short by a tree.
i was outside when i heard it, so i went running down my driveway (in flip flops). by the time i got to the road, i couldn't see her, but i could hear her screaming and then i saw smoke from her tires i guess. She had already climbed out of her car, so i slid down and sat with her until another neighbor found us and called 911.
the girl was fine, luckily- she probably has some whiplash and a bit lip. she was HYSTERICAL of course. My boys came and sat with her and made sure she stayed still.
I'm not letting any of my kids drive, ever. EVER. we're all shaken up by it and it didn't even happen to us.
