can you give me a quick explanation of how stenography works? i took it in highschool (the kind you write down with funky symbols) but i do not remember anything about it. how does that little machine work?

Here's how the machine's keyboard is layed out:


STPH * FPLTD
SKWR * RBGSZ
AOEU



You keep your left hand on the left bank and your right hand on the right bank - similar to how you put your hands on a type writer.

You don't "spell" the words ... you sound them out.

For example, Decibel would first be abbreviated in your mind to "DECBL."

You work from Left to right on the keyboard. Notice there is no "D" on the Left side. Instead, we hit the TK at the same time.

So, to "stroke" your name, I'd do it 2 strokes:

"TKES" and then "-BL"


Your name has 2 strokes. I hate you.
