I need some help here. I put myself in a Dilemma

Due to my recent medical issues I took a lot of time off work.
When I got back I was overloaded with paperwork and what not.

I hired a new "helper".. It is a college girl looking to get into the field so I figured I'd let her see what's it's really like, kindof.

She started about a week and a half ago and she does a great job work BUT holy crap, she bitches about EVERYTHING!!!!!! She will bitch nonstop and it is annoying me and coworkers.

How do I handle this? i've never had someone working for me!

Tell her.

Tell her that some of her comments can be real downer to the those of you in the office and when she looks at you perplexed give her some examples.

Start off gentle with and see if she gets the message, if she seems confused be a bit more direct but don't go straight STFU already (save that for the 3/4 reminder).

Apparently.

This is business tho. At worst, you'll be teaching her a lesson she needs to learn and will learn eventually.

Jesus fuck, I work with a ton of females who are the fucking WORST at managing people in tough times. Everybody wants to be "nice". But fuck, people, have some logic and foresight for fuck's sake. You baby an employee now and all you're doing is creating an environment that says "It's okay, wittle baby, we'll let you act unprofessional. Run all over us. We're suckers". Said employee will then think such behavior is appropriate and this the cycle begins.
 
Well just tell her there is a time and place for everything and in the work place she needs to conduct herself as a professional, it is all about appearances and you would hate for this place to have a bad image
 
The quickest way to turn an underling off to any idea of helping you is to bitch them out for something they might not even realize they are doing. I dont care what genders are involved.

Velvett had an excellent approach. Be firm but don't be accusatory. Let her know that her attitude is really affecting the entire office and not in such a positive way. You can start out by saying something like, "I don't know if you are aware of this but...." and take it from there.

If she still doesn't get it then fire her and find someone who is better suited to work in your field. You would be doing her a favor firing her at that point.
 
Listen to the ladies on this one, Clockwork. You need to tell her what she's doing, because it's a bad habit to get into, and it will affect her career in the future, but if you come off too hard she'll just shut down and be hurt (college age female = walking bundle of nerves).

You could also just have sex with her and every so lightly scratch shut up and be happy across her belly with a chef knife.

But people might start to worry about your mental health and office practices.



























(Trust me - pull her aside and start off gently and see how stern you have to be based on her response to you. She may not realize she bitches all the time, she could come from a family of kvetching hens. You may also risk the chance of alienating her and she quits which is good because then you don't have to feel bad firing her and you can hire someone else. Win:Win either way)

You can start looking for someone new.

Hopefully she'll have learned something (doubtful) but you never know.
 
you're her boss.

you're not trying to make friends. most important thing is she respects you.

if she's bitching all the time and a detriment to your business, then fire her.
if she's a valuable asset and is working well, then do what you can to shut her up..or put up with it for the sake of the business.

with employees, i always try to treat them like family, reward them when they're doing well to keep them loyal, but at the same time require that give 100% and don't get on my nerves or prevent me from doing my job

or just fire her...it's always pretty fun

Of course I am. The housekeeping is what the lawngnome is for 'cause I don't clean shit neither. Did way too much of that the first time around and feel that there are better ways for me to spend my time, like elitefitness for example... LOL Actually if he don't want to do it then he is real good at hiring peeps, but the bastard leaves the firing/complaining if they don't do their jobs properly up to me. :worried:

not everyone has that mastery of other peeps.
some are better leaders than others, some command respect better.
i suck at dispiline and totally got pwned in the work force the first time i had "employees" to manage.
4 employees fucking pwned me
 
I know I'm not the best.. I avoid conflicts like this.. that's why I've never had any employees but I'm getting so busy it's unavoidable

For future reference, next time you need to hire someone, spend a couple of extra bucks and pay to have an executive hiring company pre-screen employees for you. That way, if the employee doesn't work out after a trial period it goes back to them, not you and you don't have to commit to any individual who won't work out for whatever reason.

You can virtually custom tailor what kind of an assistant you need.

it was my mom's friends daughter.. she's only temp until next semester so I can bare with her for another 2 months

No dear, that would be sexual harrassment ...

HOWEVER, you do have some confidence that the crop of candidates the employment agency sends you are all qualified and competent, so if you happen to select the hot one as a future employee and then work out a deal with her for that lunchtime gratification at least you know the biotch can also figure out your filing system and edit documents with minimal to no whining :qt:

P.S.: You just learned the most valuable lesson there is in business, never hire people that are emotionally attached to people you like, seriously.
