I need some exercises to do for my neck... to make it thicker... like... HOW to actually do that neck thing with the weight..

I'd like to avoid anything with the Neck Harness...

So if you guys could point me in the right direction, or at least let me know if I'm doing it right (weight on back of my head, laying down over incline bench and moving head up and down) I'd appreciate it. :)

neck presses. ill explain
get on yer hands and knees and have a friend press down on the back of your head and u push up with your head as hard as u can. then do the same for side to side and then have him hold your forehead while u push for head forward. they use these in football and wrestling to thicken and strengthen their neck.

Yes, Towel, bridges... pictures?? :)

Saint just explained Bridges over the IM... think I know how to do them now... but pictures woudl be nice. :)

C, check out some Mixed Martial Arts sites. Some of them have specific training techniques. Since neck training is a big thing in fighting, there will be lifts described for it.

When I started fighting a had kind of a bitch jaw, so I trained my neck pretty hard in hopes of improving my ability to take shots. Bridges, isos, various harness lifts, etc. My neck got stronger, but it really started to grow when I began deads:)

Just be careful when you train your neck man. Find good pics and descriptions of the exercises before you try. The neck is really vulnerable to injuries by doing things like these wrong.

Just remember, it's hard to find decent dress shirts with over an 18.5" neck. If you go much over that, you have to start going to the big and tall section which means limited colors and patterns and the shirt will be the size of a tent.

I'm already wearing 18.5" neck now, and I have to have them tailor made since my suit jacket size is around a 49-50... because there will be an ABUNDANCE of material in the midsection... so it won't be much of anything to have to tell my tailor to make the neck 20" :)

ain't that the fucking truth!

When I wear dress shirts I just buy ones that won't close around my neck... leave a few buttons undone. I hate the look of the 18.5" dress shirts i have... they are WAY too baggy in the gut area... looks funny.

Thanks to my dad I have a gigantic neck.. lol .. genetics

I don't know how much this will increase the size of your neck...
But get balloons(strong ones), and fill them up with varyin amounts of air. Put the balloon against a wall and use it as resistance and try to squish it with your head into the wall... you can do it with the side of your head or your forehead...
My physio therapist made me do these back in the day to stregthen my neck... I dont know how much growth they will induce tho

weighted swiss ball crunches, hold the plate in your hands, and put the palms against the side of your head.

viola ab and neck resistance in one :D

worked for me, my neck is getting thicker - not because I want it to either :)

Yup. There have been a couple threads here on bridges, they're excellent for the neck. That's why all football players and wrestlers do them. If you do a search, you can find different techniques.

Also, I use the neck machine at my gym. Started out as a physical therapy thing. Started with 25lbs...I can now (after six months or so) do over 150 fairly easily. I wish the rest of my body could respond like that.

C-ditty,

Try my neck routine:

Go into a boxing gym in Compton. Put on a full padded helmet. Talk loudly and constantly about how you've heard that the "brothers" can't hit as hard as great white boxers like Botha... and that it'll probably be a long string of white guys who will hold the heavyweight title for the next 20 years... or maybe a skinny Asian guy who bumps up in weight. Then shadow box with fancy Steve Martin foot work while singing Peter Gabriel's I WANT TO BE YOUR SLEDGEHAMMER. Pretty soon a couple guys who weight about 240lbs will ask you if you want to lace up and go a few rounds. Tell them YES... but mention that you will have to go easy on them 'cuz you are a VERY experienced boxer and have studied all of the Don King Home Boxing Classes video tapes... watched some of the tapes three times. Then, ask the guys, "Is this an uppercut?" - while you are throwing a lousy right hook... and look confused.

...After you've been in the ring with these guys for about 5 rounds... believe me... you will have had the best neck workout of your life... mostly from your neck trying to hold your head onto your body.

Or you could go to a heavy metal concert and head-bang for a couple hours.

Neck Flexion;

Place folded towel on weight plate. Lie supine perpendicular to bench. Place weight and towel on the forehead. Support and balance weight with both hands throughout movement.

Move head up by flexing neck until chin touches upper chest. Return by hyperextending neck and repeat

Neck extensions;

Place folded towel on weight plate. Sit bent over on thighs. Place weight and towel on the back of head. Support and balance weight with both hands.

Move head up by hyperextending neck. Return by bending neck down until chin touches upper chest. Repeat.

or you could just do this...

Side to side is fine...best to go all directions if you can. But it takes some getting used to. Do it from your knees at first, then from your toes as your neck gets stronger.

Have someone put a half nelson on you and resist as much as possible. Get involved with some mat time. . . .some wrestlers terms. Go workout with the University of Illinois wrestling squad. You will get a big neck.

you my secret to having a 20" neck? have a giant fucking mellon as a head... seriously your nekc will get stronger if you have a 52 lb head... just holding the damng thing up.

haha,

I do neck ups, just lay on a bench with my head hanging off the end and push my head up almost like a neck sit up, I apply weight for my hands on the forehead. We do these in wrestling, bridges are bad for your spine and I have gotten a couple pinched nerves from doing them until I learned to stop. I also do the neckups side to side and backwards. I get a good burn from them, my neck is already huge for my body just from wrestling, heavy deads, and recently training my neck.
