I have a bad ear infection

And I dont feel like going and sitting at the docs forever to get a prescription. I know for a fact that it is a ear infect yet they still want to look and take 10 years! screw that I hate going to the docs office.

I have heard that you can take warm compressions on it, but it hurts when i do that. I have also tried rubbing it to get the fluids to loosen up some but it hasnt really helped.
What else can I do? And why the hell would I have an ear infection when I have no cold?
shit.

You need to go to the doc, angel. An ear infection, left untreated, can damage your ear and your hearing. My stepmom is deaf in one ear for that very reason.

inner. It is in the middle ear

Are you sure. Cracking, popping, dizziness? If so, then you're right. Like heather said. . .go to a doc. . .it ain't gonna go away by itself.

Plus, a co-worker at my last employer died from a silly little sinus infection. . .it was just your usual garden variety strep or what have you except that it had a couple of unusual genetic characteristics that allowed it to pass through the membrane between the sinus cavity and the brain. . .she died about a day after she got sick.

Don't mess with germs!

Take a blow drier to it darlin, you may have some water down in the canal.

Set the drier on the lowest warm setting and let the air blow right down into the canal.

I hate going to the docs. My doc is closed on fridays so i have to go see a on call doc. Which means I will sit there for a million years, and I have to go into work today.
My youngest son was a terror at having ear infections. He ended up becoming tone deaf in his ears due to them.My youngest son we caught early enough and managed to get the tubes in before and damage happened.
But fuck my ear hurts. I have had them before when i got colds and stuff from the post nasal drip but oh my god this one hurts like a bastard. And i have a hard time sleeping.Seems is feels best when i hold my hand on it and press as hard as I can. I even went as far as trying to pop my ears hoping that would help.
Shit I wish I had saved my kids meds. I used to save the amoxicillin and the zithromax but after my baby got tubes i figured i would not need them any more.

But that will blow her hair up on the other side of her head and mess it all up!

I'm just kidding. =-)

I have enourmas amounts of pain. Pressure in my ear. Not really popping or sizzeling. But tons of preasure.
I do not own a blow dryer.

Ah, well the price we pay for comfort.

The blow drier trick can work miracles sometimes. My husband called me one time before we were living together literally CRYING from the pain, I told him about the hair drier trick, he called back a half hour later a changed man.

If it's a true ear infection she would have concommitant symptoms, fever, sore throat, sinus infection, head cold, etc.

No fever means no infection, simple fact of medicine.

It is a good idea. I'll ry that if I get water stuck in my ear again.

Do you have a fever? ANY other symptoms, even if they don't seem related, pain on your face anywhere?

nope, nothing. I am generally knowledgeable when it comes to medicine as it is my main interests. That is why I am so puzzled right now with this. Usually I dont bother going to the docs because i know right away what it is and i know the home remedies instead of meds ( i am against meds). But this ear problem is a mystery. I have absolutely nothing wrong with me at all. So who knows what is wrong.

You're the fourth person this week I've heard complain about a severe ear infection.

Among others my sister has a bad one as well.

Does she have any other syptoms? Such as cold, or sinus issues?

Impacted earwax or water down the canal is my first guess, but without dizziness or other signs of infection or pain anywhere else, it could be a lot of things.

You could have a localized fungal infection, that might not cause a fever.

Try taking some ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, or Nuprin), 400 to 600 mg see if that relieves some of the inflammation and pain. At least you might be able to survive the weekend until Monday. If it's impacted wax the ear needs a clean out, if it's a fungal infection you need fungal ear drops. If it's a REAL infection I'll be shocked as hell but anything's possible.

Edit: Okay, worst case scenario, it's a wicked infection and the eardrum ruptures. While that sounds horrific it usually heals on it's own with no damage to the hearing.

I am living on motrin. It is not doing much. I dont think it would be water as I have not gone swimming yet this year and I dont think the shower would cause that. May be impacted wax but then again I am constantly cleaning out my ears.
Who the hell knows. All i know is that I am not enjoying it. I guess I will keep on massaging it. I sat here last night and rubbed it for some time. It feels a little better today but still hurts like a bitch

Okay, do you have a heating pad???

yes, heat packs are not helping it. I tried the whole warming pack thing. That is what I first tried as i thought it was built up wax and that the heat would help drain it but it did not work.

Whoa up there, did you SIT and apply the heat packs, or LAY on the heat packs, with the bad ear down?

i started sitting up then i went to the lay down position. Nothing happened.

Have you tried a cold compress instead?

Angel said:
no, i was contemplating that last night
Switch it up.

If ibuprofen isn't helping, switch to acetominophen next go round.

If heat isn't helping, switch to cold, 20 minutes on, to start with.

I will work on it tonight after work. Poor needto I am sure he is hating it as well. He is on my ass about going to the docs too. I know he is a jerk some times but he was so sweet last night about my ear. I am a big baby when I am sick, lmao.

Feel better honey, you can't help it and I can understand about not wanting to go to an urgent care facility, that's like LAST possible resort (as in, I think I'm gonna die ...)

Acetominophen (tylenol) should definitely help ... whatever you have is NOT an inflammatory condition (or the motrin would have helped).

I learned a long time ago, when heat doesn't relieve pain switch to cold.

Feel better honey.

chewing gum might help fight the pressure until you can get some antibiotics.

feel better!

If you have insurance, wait until later tonight (around 1-2am) and then go to the er. Tell them the pain was so bad it woke you up. It should be dead around that time. So you will be in and out. But even if you have to wait, I advise that you take care of it. I left an ear ache go for a week once and I ended up getting a hole in my eardrum. I never felt a pain like that before and it took weeks to heal. They will give you some antibiotics and/or some ear drops and you will be all set.

I understand her not wanting to go to the ER or urgent care either, Needto, horrible. I find waiting utterly, totally, absolutely loathesome and hate being around other people so I have to be on the verge of death to go to the ER (literally, the last time I went to the ER I had double pneumonia and they immediately admitted me, I ended up spending a week in the hospital).
