I hate grading papers with a passion

It is the most infuriating thing in the world - that kids are willing to take the time to write a project or lab report up and yet taking the time ot actually think about things is completely out of the question. The only satisfaction I get is giving them shit marks, though it doesn't get me far since I know hardly any of the little fuckers give a shit.

Mother of crap. I am going to berate all these little assholes next week for being morons.

Today everyone gets an A+! Great job class now take them on a field trip for the good work. Your problem is fixed!

you sound like a great teacher. i hope these are atleast high school punks your talking about? and not grammar school kids.

Dude, that would be the best day ever. I lik enothing more than gradingthe papers that the people actually put work into. It is faster, easier, and I get to give them a good mark afterwards.

The way it is now I dig through gibberish, and try to make SOME sense out of tiny fractions of the crap in order to give them SOME marks.

I am a teaching assistant at a university since I am still trying to earn my PhD and will be for another few years. So these are young adults for the most part who won't ever amount to much and it's their own fault. A lot of them are smart.

HH even I knew he was a teacher in my short tiome here. If we made a thread about how nathan being a teacher could relate to the greatness of HH then maybe it would have stuck! lol

Thats embarrassing that college students are that way!!

nothing can relate to my greatness.

i'll help him grade papers now that i know....see, i like to share my greatness with others.

Can you grade my paper on Lincoln's birthday final exam? I am hoping to graduate soon, sixth grade has been a tough 6 years.

:santa:
PS we think about you and how you are doing all the time

that sux man

I had a few teacher assistants tell me they used my papers as the answer keys for grading the other papers

I could not be more infuriated. I need a bowl so bad it's not even funny or I am so going to kill someone.

don't be so sure. . .i was a beer-swilling, rugby-playing, skirt-chasing, n'er-do-well as an undergrad. . .i didn't hit my stride until a few years later. . .since then i received a graduate degree and several professional certifications and started my own practice. . .i'm doing well enough that my wife was able to quit her six-figure, fortune 50 job to stay home with our kids. . .

I'm going to take a wild guess that Nathan's TA'ing a freshman/intro class wherein most of the kids taking it are doing so only because it is required for their degree. It probably involves math, too, making it horribly frustrating when trying to grade psets of students that start out their solution with, "triangle area = 2 pi r; r = side B of the triangle..."

All I can suggest is try to make it as fun as possible. Make some cute little remarks that ooze sarcasm not unlike some of your posts from EF. Use lots of complex mathematical symbols that are meaningless to them, too. Personally, I'd get a laugh if I got back a pset, and there was a red ink "WTF is this?!" written next to a completely botched attempt I made at solving a problem.

fyi, nathan dances naked with ANPB on his junk. while his dog watches. that's pretty sick and that's what this thread should be about, not the fact that hard-bitten is a 56 year old man.

or grading papers, is what i meant.

Nate -- is your tuition and/or boarding pretty much paid for by TA'ing, or do you still have to take out loans on top of that? I don't know much about Canadian uni's.

Also, why are you TA'ing? Did you have the choice between TA'ing and research? Wait, you're theoretical, right? I suppose it's harder to get a research spot there compared to solid state or something. You had a near-perfect ugrad GPA if I recall, so I'm sure you could pretty much have your pick of what's available. Have you taken your quals yet?

Yeah, I think just write WTF all over it. hehehe.

I do both research and TA. That is hte norm up here. I get paid for both as well though. And yeah, I am theoretical. My research involves dynamical interactions between stars in a cluster - stellar collisions/mergers basically.

Definitely prestigous. Can't go wrong with getting paid to research gigantic balls of superheated gas smashing into each other.

Check out the big brain on Nathan!

Damn the only research I do is wildcatting.
