I have heard many people say that it was from a lack of oxygen to the brain. This is why it is so important to breath powerfully when lifting. Breath in on the down, and exhale on the up contraction. If you already do this, i have no clue. Hope this helps.
If you breathe properly, you may want to check your form. Do you put unnecessary pressure on your skull, driving into the bench with it, in order to get the weight up?
I think it's a breathing issue (from what i've read).
I always load up on oxygen with about 10 deep breaths before I do a heavy / working set. Once I'm benching Im breathing in fully - expanding my chest as much as possible to take advantage of the mechanical leverage given by having the chest fully inflated at the bottom of the movement.
I often used to get up from the bench and find that I was doing my Mr Tomato-head impression. All that straining increases your blood pressure for the duration. Try to exhale steadily after your sticking point if you have one or through the whole concentric portion of the lift otherwise.
I got a terrible headache on my 4th set of db presses last night.
I continued my workout but couldnt go heavy after that, without my head killing me.
My head was still hurting late last night while having sex with my girl.
Hope I can train today.
