I cant wait until Hughes vs GSP

I think that GSP is the one who can de-throne Matt Hughes. He is more well rounded as a fighter and is real hungry to avenge his previous defeat. In watching the first fight it was pretty evenly matched until GSP made a rookie mistake by leaving his arm waving. He has improved since then and his domination of Frank Trigg was quite impressive. He also beat an in-shape BJ Penn who everybody thought was unbeatable. Should be a good fight either way.

Tim Sylvia v. Jeff Monson I don't think will be very competitive. Jeff is 5'9" and Tim is 6'8". As long as Tim can stuff his takedowns and pepper him with punches I think it will be over soon. That being said I wouldn't mind an upset with Monson taking him to the ground and submitting him with a choke.

I wouldn't mind an upset either
with reguard to the HW division
it'd be good to see a grappler at the very top of the division, but there are too many strikers in UFC HW division that would be able to take Monson
if he does win, he'll be the champ defending and the underdog pretty much to every serious contender to come along
in my mind

with GSP I think he will defeat Matt Hughes
but if Matt wins I hope it's a long battle and not some quick pow into a submission cus GSP slipped, or vice versa

anybody else want to see GSP fight at 185 a bit?

Matt Hughes is funny when he fights it all depends on his opponents... with that being said GSP will come out strong but will ultimatley loose by stopage... Now Tim and Monsoon very interesting i have to say i'm no fan of either but this is such and awkward fight i have no idea what'll happen. Even if tim gets taken down Monsoon is to short or small to pass silvia's gaurd so ground and pound IMO is out of it. If i was a betting man i wouldn't bet on either... But i'll say Monsoon by submission in the first round...

GSP at 185? That won't happen.. Although i'd like to see him get owned GSP putting on 15 lbs of muscle and keeping his conditioning up to par just isn't gonna happen

I just watched Hughes/GSP I. Hughes converted a kimura attempt by GSP into an armbar. GSP didn't control Hughes' lower body at all and had been working a kimura anytime he was under Hughes.

Monson's got more in his arsenal than blind shots to work submission magic. Frank Mir locked a tight armbar on Silvia and Mir's grappling is nowhere near the level of Monson's. Mir lured Silvia in by moving in and out and Silvia came rushing in when Mir was near the fence.

I do agree that it would be bad for Monson to stand and trade with Silvia. Monson does have a good jaw though. He stood with Liddel and didn't get dropped.

It will take likely take Silvia more than one hit landing to KO Monson. It will only take Monson one shot landing to put Silvia on the ground.

he would get torn apart by anderson silva.

I agree but now what about hughes at 185...

tough call. if he tried to stand up against silva, hughes wouldn't stand much of a chance. actually, anybody trying to stand up against silva doesn't stand much of a chance. this guys muay thai is world class. i've seen some of his Pride fights, and he pretty tough on the ground. but that is would be the way to fight him. if hughes took him to the ground, he would stand a much better chance. that would be a very interesting fight.

heres to hoping hughes gets his ass handed to him!!!!!! silvia's fat ass will prob win unfortunately, and i would love to see both fighters fight at 185 to make that division deeper.

Silva & Hughes are not fighting, it's Hughes vs St.Pierre. A better fight than Hughes vs Silva would be for Silva to pack on some weight & challenge Chuck Liddell @ 205. Both are great strikers with different techniques. Actually maybe Chuck should drop down to 185, he looks a little pudgy around the middle.

A Little off subject but i hope Hughes takes this one. Diego Sanchez has been talking alot of shit about him and i cant wait to see that happen. Sanchez is one of my favorite young fighters but i think he is overestimating his abilities and would like a loss to get him grounded a little so he can go on to his full potential. That and im not fond of GSP.

I liked Diego for about 10 minutes.... And I hated Matt but now i like Matt and dislike Diego....

does anyone have a link to Monson vs Liddell

Google video has it. It was UFC 29 I think.

I'm glad to see there is not as much Hughes bashing for this fight on here as there was for the Penn fight. Once again I'm picking Hughes to win.

Why do people dislike Hughes? He's an excellent champion and fun to watch as a fighter. He's not stagnant and he finishes most of his fights.

Because he is a dick.

St. Pierre definitely deserved that title tonight. You could tell he came into that fight in TOP shape. He made no mistakes at all. His technique looked superior and better than any MMA fighter I've ever seen. It is safe to assume that he will hold the welterweight title for a long time, I'm sure.

Agreed. Its tough not to like GSP.

GSP looked almost unbeatable tonight - too bad people will be crying forever about "low blows".

As much respect as I have for Hughes' talent, I still think he comes across as an arrogant prick sometimes and was glad to see GSP dethrone him - not just for that reason, but also to see someone new at the top of the WW division.

Wow, that was incredible. The way gsp was lightining fast and snaps his kicks and punchs... man o man. I thought for sure the fight was stopped at the very end of round one. I jumped off the couch and was jumping up and down. Then i realized they stopped it due to time.

GSP is so well rounded. And how about that sweep kick too. I cant believe he beat taht arrogant prick. Im so happy.

That was a fantastic display by GsP, i too was jumping up and down towards the end of the 1st until i realised the round had finished, i thought for sure then that Hughes was gonna come back and take it, im glad i was wrong....!!, Fukkin great sweep and head kick by St Pierre too.

Hell ya, like 4 or 5 of us were jumping up and down... HOLY SHIT GSP BEAT HIM!!! If there was 2 more seconds in the round...

And for sure we thought hughes was gonna win after the first round was over. It would of been the perfect controversial story.

 I was there at arco arena it was awsome to have been a spectator to hughes losing his belt. Some of the undercards that were not televised were good too all KO's.

sweet dude. How loud was the booing for the sylvia, monson fight?

You know alot of the boo's from the crowd occured during a stalemate on the ground or when they showed clips of matt hughes pre fight.
I think a majority of the crowd was pleased that GSP won. There wasnt a whole lot of anything from the crowd during silvia and monsoon as it was kind of a boring 25 min fight.

Yea the welterwight division needs a change. A lot of people have grown to dislike matt hughes due to his attitude. He hasn't been showing a lot of class as of late. GSP just seems so grateful and appreciative that he won.

Oh and I think its time Brandon Vera gets a title shot. I think he has a chance of winning it. i think he can beat sylvia. Sylvia sucks.

I believe Vera will beat Tim, he's a big goober. GSP dominated Hughes so bad it really wasn't even a competative fight. My gameplan has always been nut kicks to set up the highkick for the ko.(j/k)

Hopefully Vera gets a chance to kick sylvia's ass in UFC 66.
Frank Mir is done since his motorcycle wreck it seems like he is way out classed/

Yea, Mir is retired now. He better go get a job at burger king or something..

And Sylvia is a douche bag. What a horrible champion. He will lose it soon hopefully.

I hope Vera takes it... His style is a little odd but he this kid has been rolling through the competition. He would have matched better than monson IMO. Wow GSP.. His performance saturday night was the best of his career hands down..

Tim Sylvia will beat down Brandon Vera. Twice he's beaten the UFC's "best" striker (Arlovski) and now he's beaten the best submission man. People (including me at one time) don't give Sylvia the respect he deserves because he doesn't look like a champ. I think Fedor is the only one who can beat him.

Uhm i disagree. Alovski was hurt in the last fight.. And the other one was a lucky punch. Right after arlovski pretty much knocked him out with a right hand from hell.

Sylvia is definetly beatable. He is all defense. He looked like a fucking douchebag at the ppv. Thats not a champ..

sylvia is very beatable! his height and reach is all he has...eventually some one will come along and beat him...they will have to have good clinch takedowns cause shooting in on tim is usless! monson stayd on the end of tims punches the whole fight. he should of gotten inside and then punched or went for a clinch takedown,he is the smaller man.

Fedor won't happen, neither will Cro Cop or Barnett. Within the UFC I think Vera has a chance to chop down the Frankenstein Maine-iac with viscious leg kicks and quicker striking. Other than that UFC needs to split the division between Heavyweight (205 - 250) and Super Heavyweight (250+). Then they need to spend some $$ and bring in some better talent in both divisions.

Looking forward to seeing Arlovski back in action. Monson should have pushed Tim against the cage before going for the takedown. What kind of gameplan was it to shoot over and over in the middle of the ring?
