I can't sleep on SD

Singleton

New member
I am trying HST. I have to do SD. I can't sleep because I haven't exercised.

I won't repeat this HST again; it is fucking me. What should I do now? How can I sleep.

I want to eat someone...

 :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw:

...and not in a sexual way.

7am to 4 am. Awake. No exercise.

Strategic deconditioning. They take 1-2 weeks off.

Ouch...doesn't sound like a good thing to me at all...

Try taking some melatonin. You can get it at most vitamin / health stores, and even some regular pharmacies.
It always seems to give me a good deep sleep, without waking up groggy or anything. Kava kava (supposedly "nature's valium") may work a little too.

It's necessary, B.

I agree with B, try some light intensity cardio.

I haven't read the thread...nor do I understand/agree with the concept behind the training methods (so ignore this if it is a horrible comment...)

BUT...

It would seem to me that any type of routine where it was a NECESSITY for you to take two complete weeks off from training needs to be rethought a lot. I would think that you would be less likely for injury, in better conditioning, and much less overtrained if you changed a few things and worked out more consistent...

Just my observation though...

B - briefly, one of the ideas is to always use progressive load to help muscle size increase (note it's mostly for size NOT strength). Obviously, you can't just increase weight every time you train forever (or we'd all have like 1200 lb benches by now). So the SD is to allow lighter weights to have some effect so you can start out at lower weights again and then keep adding, going slightly higher than the last cycle. Also, I think it's 7-9 days of SD, a little less than 2 weeks.

I agree that you can't keep adding weights to the bar (which is another reason why I like WSB, we just change exercises weekly) and that it is a good idea to have some down time every once in a while...but to take 7-9 days completely off from the gym??? If one is training properly they should not be overtrained to begin with... I could see going to the gym an doing some lighter work or cutting the volume down by 50-75%...but skipping the gym completely...

Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me...strength or asthetic athlete one.

Keep in mind, HST is the opposite of a performance routine. The express goal is getting bigger.

Strength athletes generally don't want to take many or long layoffs because all your neural strenght you've built is the first thing to go.

With growth though... basically your muscles get conditioned to load. In order to continue growing you need to be always lifting heavier weights. But that can't go on forever, you're limited by strength. Time off reverses the conditioning effect and allows light weights to work.

To grow you can either:

1) Cause growth with weights greater than the muscle is used to.

2) Lower the amount of weight the muscle is used to by not lifting anything for 1-2 weeks.

It's not about overtraining at all, although getting rid of fatigue is a side benefit. It's about making lighter weights more productive again.
