Just curious. At least when a cat is declawed, they are asleep.

I had my cat declawed because i didnt know much about it, and the place where I live doesnt allow cats with claws (pfft as if they would know). But, now that I know more about it, I wouldn't even do it again.

I mean if you could choose having your baby awake and cutting off his foreskin and putting him to sleep and cutting off 1/3 of his fingers, the choice would be obvious, right?

I don't think the sleep makes up for it.

Declawing a cat is like removing the upper joint from all of your fingers. That's hardly comparable to circumcision IMO.

I know. I read about it and that's why I didn't get my cats declawed. However, my furniture is all scratched up now.

I think there are a few key factors to having a good cat.

1. He's a stray, and thankful someone took him in.
2. He's declawed, so can't wreck furniture.
3. He's male, and from my experience male cats just seem to have a better demeanor than females.

My lil buddy-

I'm truly happy you have the company of a pet you love, and even more so considering you're a man who is willing to say he enjoys the company of a cat, but STFU about declawing, seriously. It is an inconsiderate act that has the potential to cause more harm than good and there is simply NO reason beyond ignorance to declaw a cat: You provide them with good scratching surfaces and if you're really neurotic about the claws trim their nail tips once a month. Think about it, there has to be a reason declawing is illegal in over 20 countries.

Just basing this opinion on personal direct observation, people who hate cats generally a) have been taught to hate cats by small minded idiots and/or b) are emotionally somewhat retarded.

Hating an animal that is perfectly suited to its environment, that fulfills its place in the ecosystem, is a nearly perfect rodent hunter (far more suited to kill mice and rats than dogs) and that is capable of associating with humans despite the fact we have nearly opposite social structure is just plain ignorant. Choose not to associate with them if that is what works for you, but cats fill a vital role in our ecosystem. It is believed that the indiscriminate killing of cats caused more than a few plagues because rats and mice ran amok.
