Hey huck (or anyone else).......can you tell me what this study is saying.....it doesn't sound to good but I'm not 100% sure of what they're talking about.

Mitodepressive, clastogenic and biochemical effects of (+)-usnic acid in mice.

Mice were treated orally with aqueous suspensions of (+)-usnic acid in a single dose of either 100 or 200 mg/kg. The effects on femur cells and proteins and on nucleic acids of liver cells were studied 24-72 h after treatment. (+)-Usnic acid was found to affect the proliferation of polychromatic erythrocytes possibly by interference with RNA biosynthesis. The slight increase in the micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes without affecting DNA synthesis suggests an effect of usnic acid on spindle apparatus.

When DNA seperated during cell repoduction, the replicated DNA is pulled to oposite sides of cell (mitosis). These spindle fibers, if fucked with, will alter the way a cell reproduces.
SOmehow, UA fucks with RBC reproduction.

I had about half a dozen research documents saved that were lost when I switched over to a new computer,and they were not good...Beyond that,my dislike of UA is now personal.I have a close female friend who decided to give UA a shot after hearing all the wonderful things about it.She experienced very good results in terms of weight loss.She also ended up in the hospital with liver failure,and now because of this wonderful compound may spend the rest of her life on medications for her liver.So in actuality,the things that I've read on paper don't mean jack shit to me in comparison to what I've witnessed in real life.My friend may be permanently fucked up from this crap,and it hurts me inside to not have stopped her from using it,so I sure as hell will dissuade anyone else I care about(which is all you guys)from taking that gamble.What you choose to do is up to you,but I will not endorse a product that I have seen cause devastation first hand.

Sorry about your friend. I am (potentially)in a similar situation, as I introduced my younger brother to UA, and later heard it may be very harmful. I`m not really worried about myself(I`m invincible ), but I`d feel pretty bad if something happens to my brother.

All that aside, if you don`t mind my asking: How much UA was your friend taking? I`d assume it`s not much, and that she had been taking liver protecting supps(ALA or Milk Thistle). But I`m asking just to be sure.

Also I don`t mean to insult your intelligence by asking, but was she taking anything else that may have harmed her liver?

She was using lipokinetix,and just following the label instuctions.She was also using 600mgs/day of ALA.No drinking or drugs,she was trying hard to get in shape.

There is no way to protect the liver from UA caused damage.

It is one of the only substances that I know of that can cause
FULMINATING liver failure.

Yep. Take UA and 2-3 days later you could be dead from liver
failure.
