How would you handle this?

I retail store owner owes me some money.
Nothing crazy. Just a few hundred dollars.
He has owed it to me for a year and a half.
Every time I call "the check goes in the mail today" and it never arrives.
How would you handle it.
I have an EXTREMELY bad temper and when I lose control its not good.
I have a feeling if I go there and he does not have the money something bad will happen.
When imagining it I have already pictured me grabbing the guy from behind the counter and throwing him into the plat glass window (he's small... about 190). From there I picture myself choking him while I tell him exactly how bad I am going to hurt him. Then doing everything I said to a "T"
Oh, I would probably beat the shit out of some of his employee's too just to make sure he gets the point.
Here is the thing. I know I will get arrested. It will destroy what is now a clean record. It will cost me thousands of dollars in legal fee's too.
For some reason it seems almost worth it to me.
Thoughts?

I am usually all for "negotiating" but this guy sounds like he will never pay you so I agree with Yonkers here

Just write it off as a lesson learned.

I have a friend who has owed me $200 for years now. I orginally loaned it to him when he said "I only need a loan for a week, I will repay you next paycheck".

He never did. Therefore that was my last communication with him ever.

I will help you once, but when you neglect my kindness you are out of my life completely.

yup. . .it's free to file with the magistrate. . .the only cost is time. . .however, even if you get a judgement, that's all you get. . .you still can't force them to pay. . .and once every 3 years you have to go to the court house and resubmit your claim or it expires and you have to go through the whole process again. . .

i say call him and tell him you're coming over. . .have the check or cash ready for me to pick up. . .then go see the asshole. . .

this will be good practice for you in controlling your temper. . .

I could send my buddy I used to do collections with.
Of course, he would just walk in and smach everything in site.
He is also a big fan of choking people while he talks to them.
I was actually the level headed one.
If I spoke to the person for more then ten seconds he would just start beating the person out of impatience.
