how to train for a specific build? with (kick a$$) progress pics

i want strength, size is an extremely close second (if i had to pick between the 2, i'd pick strength). however, the size i want and the build i want, well, i'm curious to know how much control we have over that. for the most part, i want a normal big build....large shoulders, ripping back, large arms, strong legs, but i want my chest thick and almost flat. anyone know what i'm saying? i want Goldberg's build (the "pro" wrestler and former Atlanta Falcons player). only difference is he's 6'4" and i'm 5'6", so obviously i'm giong to have to scale it down :)

here's links to my pics. oh, the first one here was taken on Sept 17, just a few weeks after i started to hit the gym. since the first week of september, i've put 1 1/4" on my bis/tris, probably 2-3" around my chest/lats (my lats are growing at an unbelievable rate).....so while i'm asking questions about lifting for a specific build, i'm gonna show off my progress.

hope i'm posting these right so everyone can see them (non plats). if not, i'll post again with just the links. thanks for any help! greatly appreciated!

Sept 17 - 13 1/4" bis/tris, 40" chest/lats (both flexed), 160lbs

Dec 20 - 14 1/2" bis/tris, not sure on chest (no one to help me measure), not sure on body weight, a month ago i was still at 160lbs (wasn't eating enough for bulk)

Nope, non plats can't see them. Go to the image, right click, properties, and you will get the url of the image. Post that.

Mike, I dig the cat bro. How did you get him to pose like that for the pic?

I'm a cat person, as some can tell, since I always comment on people's cat pics.

BBF - My cat was trying to get out of my mother in laws hands.. just lucky timing...LOL

Crak - nice progress! As far as your question about wanting a thick chest that's flat - not really sure what you mean, but you can't really change the shape of the muscle that your parents gave you. All you can do is make it bigger.

The chest and traps look like they are growing. That's good progress for a short time. You have a great back too, I'm guessing from all the pull-ups in the MC.

i can't post the pic, copyrights. open the page, over on the right there's a red column and a pic of the guy that says "Photos" above it. click on that, it'll take you to the photos. that's what i mean by thick and flat. that's the type of build i'd love to achieve. i'm currently doing 5x5 (just finished week 1), but if there's something else i should do to try to build like that, i'm more than willing to switch.

before anyone flames me for watching "professoinal" wrestling, yeah, i know it's fake in the sense that it's scripted drama and the outcome of matches is predetermined. and that's where the story ends. the physical abilities of the men and women involved is unreal. true athletes, incredible strength, speed, and agility. amazing to watch it and see what these guys can do!

Mike Rojas and IronandGravity - thanks for the compliments! when i was in boot camp my back exploded. wasn't just all the pullups, it was ALL of the training. physicall intense and mentally taxing every day.

about building muscle....i was told that you can have some control over how you build. i don't know if that's true or not, so that's why i posted all of this. i don't want my chest to be completely flat, but i want that full shape. any suggestions (if it's possible for me to build up that way) greatly appreciated.

One more thing to add.....WalkingBeast....THANK YOU! your comments last night about my pics were a real boost and encouragement to keep going hard. thanks a lot man!

Anytime brother!!!

Wow dude, you don't look like you have 14 1/2" arms and are 160 pounds. Sometimes I wish I was shorter...

Lookin good by the way.

Here ya go.

THANK YOU!

here's the legs. i work them as hard as i work the upper body, just never really think too much about them.

Flexed, of course :)

Not the best calf shot, but i tried.

no current measurements on my legs. quads measured 22" at 8" above my knee 3 1/2 months ago, and a month and a half ago it was up to 22.5". calfs are between 14-15".

My best squat day was 145x12, 185x10, 225x8, 265x5. inbetween the squat sets i'd do a set of step-ups and calf raises at the same weight and same number of reps that i had just squatted. 265x5 was good the first 3 reps, the last 2 i worked very hard for, but got them. and i go down til my theighs are parallel to the ground. :)

Mike

LeeJunFan - thanks!

normally i have a problem with compliments going straight to my head, but i know how hard i've been working and the compliments are just fueling me to work even harder.

once again, thanks to all!

Good progress...nice back. 160lbs...damn...I'm 190 @ 5'9" and don't think I hava back as wide. Pull-ups?

JoBu

lots of pullups in the marine corps helped to build my back, but we did a lot of other stuff too, so everything combined helped.. when i got out of boot camp, a couple people said that i was "all back" because it had grown so much.

Tagio - thick is what i'm going for. i think if i can keep an even balance of incline and flat bench work, i can thicken up my chest the way i want. i think i might make the majority of my bench work incline for a while and see how that works out. if i'm remembering correctly from everything i've read, that's the right move for what i want.

thanks!

Mike
