How to stop car stereo thieves?

OK, for the second time in 4 weeks I've had my car broken into and the stereo stolen. The 1st time they took my cell phone and radar detector as well as the $175 JVC stereo. They picked the lock and took the stereo out clean so they didn't damage the vehicle. The second bastard just pulled out half of the dash board along with the stereo. I was using a detachable face plate, but like an idiot, I just put the face plate under the seat. I guess the thieves caught on to that trick  I had that stereo for a whole 3 weeks before it got ripped. It wasn't even worth that much. I paid $135 for the stereo plus all of the installation charges. It couldn't be worth more than $15-$20 used. Now I have several hundred in damage to the dashboard alone. How do I stop this? Would an alarm system work? I'm going to have the body shop replace the stereo with a factory unit. I figure that won't be as much of a target.

This sucks donkey balls!

a car alarm would help depending on where you are living.
get a stereo that is stuck into the dashboard, maybe with screws or some thing. One that is put in nice and snug so that people cannot get it out (that is how mine is) Also never leave any thing in the car that is of any value. After they break in again they will realize that there is nothing worth taking so they will stop.

trunkmonkey.com

I can't find the link, but Big Black Guy Named Ben seemed fairly effective.

On a more serious note, watch where you park. An alarm will help, but it's not going to be the only thing you need to do.

What kind of car to you drive?

car alarm will help but they will cut the wires a few seconds after breaking into the car. patty's solution to your problem is car alarm and sniper rifle.

Well at least the picked the lock and didn't break the glass.

I think the only way to stop it is to not have a good system in the car and may as well leave the car unlocked if they got it that easy.

I had a system taken from my truck. Next system I put in had a very nice row of straight edge razors taped to the back. Anyone reaching in for a fast grab and go would leave at least lots of blood, if not a finger or two. Would not save the stereo, but the revenge aspect is sweet. Sold the truck to a cop who left the blades in.

Well hope a heroin addict never is the one breaking into your car. They would bite threw a 1' steel plate to get high and no alwarm will stop them. I have installed a lot of high end stereos and alarms... they usally dont work because theifes know how to stop them. Simply by fiding the speaker. All you usally would have to do is break window pop trunk real quick locate alarm and cut the wires. Good ones will have a backup power supply incase the alarm is hidin so that even if you cut Main power wire they will go off. Go to a custom stereo place in your area and they will be able to find you one that is pretty deent. And always park your car in the garage if you can. Hope it helps a little.

plifter, did u see the thread about cruising? i posted about Cruise Avenue.

also, Marshall University is for fags only.

an alarm will scare most thieves off,but the kind who will rip it out of your dash will just do that,so unless your close by with a baseball bat I doubt it will do much, just park it near a well lit area

there'd be nothing more satisfying than cathing someone in the process of stealing your alarm. Run out with a bat, hit them right in the teeth with the butt end of it and then stomp their face with your boots.

The problem is this is happening in the parking lot of my apartment building. I don't really have a choice of where to park. There are 2 street lights over the parking lot and lights on the building facing the lot.

The cop said that they rarely have factory stereos ripped off. I'm going to try to get my insurance company to pay for a factory system. The factory systems have a theft lock where you have to enter a code when it is installed. Without the code the stereo won't work.

This shit happended to me too a few times...Go Factory they never get stolen cuz they arent worth anything to anyone. Or get a sick system installed and drive around bumpin your music...watch your car everynight and at your rate the pricks will be there before you know it....bat and boots and you know the rest...then drag them inside and call the cops and say they were breaking into your house.

high voltage electrified car interior. Works like a charm. You can do it yourself. Remember to put a sticker in the window advising about this.
