How the fuck are you supposed to balance bodybuilding and a social life?

Anytime i go out with my girl i'm always stopping somewhere to eat. She has a coffee and i'm having a steak or a grilled chicken sandwich. I make my training schedule like it's an extension of work.

4days training - wake up at 6:00AM - Cardio for 30-45 minutes - go to work from 8:00 to 4:00PM - Train from 4:00 - 4:45. Go home, eat, shower go out till 10:00PM-11:00PM then sleep.

Once the weekend rolls around i only do cardio when i wake up and take Saturday and Sunday off and include a cheat day in there. I go to bed when i want and wake up when i want. It's different if you want to party 7 days a week which i never did even when i was 21. Just too boring for me to be out all the time.

Even if i wasn't training at all i would still be going to bed early during the week because i would still need about 8 hrs of sleep a night to function.

lift every day?
why?

I mean a 3 day split can work aaaight or not?

maybe 4 but why 5 or hell 7?

i agree its fucking hard... how about you try balancing bb, being on the basketball team, a social life, and schoolwork?

Well, man, let me add my two cents in here. I often ponder this question myself, but I guess what it really comes down to is WHY ARE YOU LIFTING? I love the time I spend in the gym, but if you have no time for anything else, ever, then why the hell do it? During a cycle, you need to be as focused as possible, but other than that, live a little. Bodybuilding is about enriching your life, not being its sole purpose. Just try to find your balance. Also, I agree that it would be nice to date a chick that was into working out as well, so she would be a little more understanding of your slightly altered lifestyle and maybe you could probably spend a little more time together doing bodybuilder stuff. Good luck to ya.

You gotta chill Frack and take time to smell the roses, I do this to make my life better not take away from it. My first 3 months dating my GF I was on and it didn't interfere a bit with my training or eating or sleeping. The reason being is she is a passionate about the gym as I am.

Anyone who says you can't have it all is wrong. Rigth now I am up at 6:00 to head to the gym for cardio, at the office by 8:00 then I am back at the gym for my hour workout at 5:00. I workout 5-6 days a week and do my cardio 3-4 days a week. On top of that I play baseball, golf and rollerblade yet I still have lots of time for my GF and my friends. Its all a matter of managing your time.

My gf loves her gym time as much as I do. On Mon, Wed, and Fri she won't miss and I love that. When I phoned her with the details of our first date she asked me if we could go out a bit later then I planned as she didn't want to miss her class. I thought perfect!! Instead of getting annoyed like she thougth I might, I was pleased as I new she would understand.

You will run into a lot of woman who don't understand your choice of lifestyle so just bang them and forget them.

You need to take yourself a little less seriously.

1 - If you are in the gym 2 hours a day every day - something is wrong with your training. Stop the chit-chat and just lift.

2 - Tell me one reason why going on a date will interfere with your nutritional regimine.

3 - You can't go out because leg day is tomorrow?? Sorry dude - that's a little whacked.

I can totally relate to being dedicated to eating, sleeping and training but you need a life.

Gee thanks for the advice. I didnt think it would matter enough to mention it but 2 hours includes driving time, I am normally there for around an hour and a half. Off gear I train with less volume, but on gear I add more sets. And I wear headphones and dont chat.

I dont know if a date will but since I need to eat a large meal roughly every 2 hours so who knows.

I dont see why you dont understand the leg day situation. If I go out until lets say midnight or 1 am, get to bed by 1:30-2, have to be up at 8 to be able to train in time for work... doesnt leave enough time for rest.

Not sure why this got you so upset corny, and obviously I realize I need a life which is the whole point of this thread...I was just looking for examples of other people who follow a similiar routine but also incorporate dating, it just seems tough to balance all of that with work, schoolwork (summer online) etc.

You simply need to make it happen......

so you train 1-2 hours a day on average right? How does that take away from a social life? I know it can be a challenge to make sure you get enough sleep and eat enough if your hanging out with friends, but it can be done. And if you can't find a way to do both right now, don't stress about it....... :)

Maybe in the US. But in the UK its very, very hard.

I swear people live inside a pint glass here.

Can't wait to get to Texas next year.

Throw into the Mix a Family and see how hard it is...
This is why Me, DOT, WODIN and other's get up with the Rosters
so we can still get a Workout while the family is still snoozing in Bed.

What's a Social life ?

I totally understand what you are saying. I am slightly obsessive compulsive though...lol. My father told one of my friends the other day (x-boss) that anything that I really set my mind to doing...I did till I was one of the best. That is the truth.

I get to bed early, sleep in if possible, sacrifice fun for food and training equipment, etc... Right now I continue to sacrifice things for the betterment of my dream...turning pro. For Christmas I got a Super Yoke and for my birthday I am getting a Conan's Wheel/Viking Press.

Very few women like me when they realize how I really am. When they realize that I love this sport more than I do most anything else, they run. When I told Night Fly about my real dream in this sport...she was a bit "taken away" by it initially. She then embraced it, understood that my dream is not like most other people's dream, that I put more into my dream than most people ever do theirs, and that I loved her too.

Keep your dream and someday someone will fall into your life that will accept your dream too...
