How red/swollen before your concerned

At what point do/would you go to the doctor when injection swelling becomes severe? I shot 3cc in my right quad seven days ago. After three days my quad started getting sore and swollen. Today (day seven) the pain is slightly subsiding but my whole quad is real red and hot, and there is a 2-3" diameter spot right near the injection site that is like a hard lump and even redder in color. All around the site has water retention which makes my knee etc look like a solid leg!

I have had this happen to my delt before and it eventually went away. Does this ever happen to anyone and you didn't end up needing medical attention and it just went away?

I normally inject after a shower, but this time I injected at the gym after my leg workout because I had family over my house. Maybe my skin had bacteria on it that didn't get removed from the alcohol swab?

7 days ago? I think it's time for an er visit. After a staph infection I delt with a few months back, I would never take anything like that lightly again. They made need to drain it, but at the very least get some antibiotics and pain meds. I know that shit must be on fire. Good luck bro and I hope it heals up quick.

Oh and btw, my doc mentioned cellulitis is going around football players, weightlifters, etc. Basically people who spend a lot of time in the gym. It was actually the second doctor who told me that. Maybe it did have something to do with doing the inject after the workout. Did you clean the site down before you injected?

I've had that happen with a quad inject once before and it freaked me out at first, but what I did was take a permenant marker and outline the redness and watched to see if it got bigger as the days went by. It didnt. I think what had happened was that I had inje3cted near a nerve or vein and it caused a great amount of irration. Also if you have an accurate thermometer put it at the redness and check the temps of areas of your leg near by. The higher the amount of difference in temps of the redness area to normal area could help indicate wether it may be an infection.

I have never gone to the ER for injection problems, but this might be worth the trip, if it is infected they will give you an anti-biotic to solve the infection part of the problem,

I think you read how I baked my gear this time to minimize pain, may be an option for you too.

I read your post about baking the gear, I am going to try that for sure. It seems to be getting better. I think I either got near a nerve or like C3 said my skin wasn't clean since I injected at the gym after a leg session.

I did some research on it and it seems that I have cellulitis. The symptoms etc matched my case exactly. Anyone have any good real world experience with this, or good info?

Yeah if it is cellulitis, tha main thing is if it is getting bigger or spreading. Cellulitis can be a bad infection requiring hospitalization. It is a good idea to see your private MD or follow up at an ER. Hard to say since I cannot see it. But the way you describe it deosn't sound good.

My guess is that after you did your injection you put back your sweaty pants on and they came in contact with the injection site therefore contaminating it. Hence the infection. My advice would be to see a doc ASAP

very infomative.... :qt:

Mine started as cellulitus, but then became a staph infection, even though they put me on antibiotics. Basically they give you an inject of antibiotics at the hospital and then write you a script for oral antibiotics, sometimes 2. Keflex isn't working on these infections anymore, so he will most likely write bactrim or levaquin (check sp?). He will also write you some pain meds as these things can become very painful. Hopefully if you get it in time, it won't turn into a staph infection that would need to be drained.

The only reason I think this could be that and not just a painful inject, is that you injected in the gym without properly cleaning the site down. Staph and cellulitus, like I posted before is going around strong in the gym. Mostly due to equipment that isn't cleaned down properly from one person to the next.

I am no way trying to scare you bro, as I would never want to cause anyone undue panic, but if this doesn't go away by tomorrow and it is then past the one week mark you've been dealing with this, then I do think you should get it checked out. Don't worry, if it is cellulitus or even a staph infection, it is taken care of quickly and without any complications.

It has been one week exactly today. It is getting better but still is a little painful (though much better) when trying to flex the muscle or bend my leg etc.

Please answer this, is it dumb to do light cardio while the muscle is still swollen if it is kind of painful? I had to skip legs this week but I can't deal with not doing cardio, unless of course that making it worse.

I'm not sure if it will make it worse, but it may cause you pain. If it is cellulitus then nothing short of antibiotics is going to make it better. The only thing you can do if it is that, is cause yourself more pain by doing work that may effect that area.

How long have you been on, and how frequently do you use that injection site? When I got into week 9 of a recent cycle my injection sites got very irritated from frequent injections. My last 4 injections were very painful. The site would swell and get warm. If I shot in my right glute I would have to sleep on my left side for a week - it was that bad. It took 8-10 days for the pain and swelling to subside.

i had a similar situation in my delt, where the swelling occured about 3 inches down from the injection site....
right around day 6 it got better, that was once i start putting a heating pad on it and massaged th shit out of it even though it hurt real bad.

urs sounds slightly more serios, i would go to the doc, an ounce of preention is worth a pound of cure,= anitbiotics now can sae u a big hassel if you let it go much longer

i get that every time i inject sus and it takes about two weeks to stop the aggravation. But if i got it with gear that had previuosly not created pain then A doctor visit may be advised.

as long as its getting better your good

Its taking a while, but it seems to be taking its course of getting better. The pain is subsiding a bit and the swelling has decreased little. It is still red, slightly hot with some water retention.

Overall it is seems (fingers crossed) to be on the downside. If it doesn't make a noticeable improvementby tommorrow then I will get some meds.
