Ive been doin it every week lately, but last week had me so tight it lasted pretty much the rest of the week. Now its time again and I'm hurting a little, so I was just wondering if anyone does it maybee eow and still feels they make good progress. THANKS.

lower back is tight as hell several days after. I think it might have to do with the var.
what's your stretching routine like?

recommended focus of stretching a tight back:

Lots of hamstring stretching, which will also stretch the lower back.

Pulling knees to chest to further stretch lower back.

stretching hip flexors in front to balance out the stretching of around the hips.

there's more you can do i'm sure but that's what came to mind right away.

Just use logic in assessing the pain too... there is a difference between soreness and pain... try to improve form, don't compromise it excessively for weight. Be wise about it.

For the past 2 yrs I've been dl'ing one a week. Finally discovered my lower back "pumps/tightness" and pain were due to weak abs. I've taken a month off, working hams and abs every day at the gym to bring them up to par, haven't lost much strength in my DL from laying off.

Once a week. It really depends on volume though. Following the volume in Madcow's 5x5, I think you'd be crazy to deadlift more than once a week. I've tried, and it didn't work for me. If you are doing less volume though, you should have little trouble going twice a week.

I have been having bad lower back pain during the day sometimes and usually the 2nd day after heavy deadlifting......yesterday, I tried to put the pin on the rack at the lowest point, just above my ankles....for some reason, my back doesnt hurt and it's not a rack pull but it's not off the floor completely......maybe 6 inch gap.....much more back feel

i had this big deadlifting thread a while back. i've always heard varying opinions on deads. but the most common thing i seem to hear is to do them less often. in that thread, madcow actually said to try them more often. that's exactly what i'm doing now - doing them 2x per week with 1x 20 rep squats and i'm doing great. every time my lower back gives out on me, i deload for a week and i'm ready to kill that shit the next week.
