How much sleep do you guys need?

I have been reading that 8 hours sleep is now considered too much. They say that 7 or even 6 hours a night is better for you, and you will live longer and healthier. How much sleep do you guys feel like you need to grow?

where did you hear this from? i'm interested. post a link if possible.
 
i feel best with 9-10 hours a sleep a night. i usually get 7-8. i am a college student so that's still pretty good considering the fact.
 
Shit on weekends I'll sleep 12-14 hrs. sometimes. On the week days I slide by with about 8hrs. I would shoot for 10 if I had no comitments at all.
 
I get 9 too... my roommates make fun of me for going to bed at 9:30, but fuck them! I have gained a lot more than all three of them combined!!
 
I heard about the Good Morning America segment that about how too much sleep correlates with a shorter life span. I didn't read it through it all though, but I think it's just based on epidemiological evidence. I tend to ignore stuff like that because lets say, for example, a study found that 60% of people who get more than 8 hours of sleep had shorter life spans than people who slept less...well what accounts for the 40% that didn't? and about a ton of other variables..thats why I never hold my breath over this stuff. By the way, I sleep far more than 8 hours a day :)

yea i mean they could test people, and lets say 60% of the people that slept 8 or more hours had Green as a favorite colour. That's doesn't necessarily mean that sleeping more makes your favorite colour green. I think it's all to do with cause and effect, and a little Post Hoc fallacy...
 
On my lifting days I need 8 otherwise I am fine with 6.It is said that the first 5 hrs of sleep are the most beneficial (GH and other factors) for recovery.After that the benefits are less.I gain fine with 6 hrs of sleep,but then I am a relative beginner(just 8 months of traning).
 
It differs day to day. It mostly depends on what time I go to bed. I usually go to be around 3am on most nights and wake up at 12pm. But even if I go to bed at 6-7am on some nights I still wake up at 12pm and don't feel any worse...
