how much is too much

doing a 8 week prop cycle, i posted the my pictures, and after quite a bit of bashing about my green shorts, i got some good feedback.

So, i started to do compound moves, bench, squats, deadlifts as my main program for this cycle.

my legs are skinny though, i was wondering if it would be assonine to try to push my legs by doing 2 training days a week on them. like monday and thursday, with lots of squats, presses, lunges, etc..

i figure as long as i am on the cycle, i should push my weaker parts pretty hard, but not at the cost of injury.

Why would training legs twice a week injure them?

my legs were lagging so I've been training them twice a week now for weeks
I can't see why you shouldn't if they're out of proportion with the rest of your body, bro

Training legs twice a week is commonplace in many areas of weight lifting.

How many times a week do you hit your upperbody? Now, how many times a week do you hit your lower body?

me?

upperbody 3 times
with lower body in between days 2 times

then a day off and repeat :)

I would train legs twice per week as long as your body can handle it. Overtraining can occur even when on cycle. Listen to your body and if twice per week is too much, i.e. you are not recovering fast enough, then cut it back to one.

It is vitally important to remember that resting is just as important as working out. Having one intense leg workout per week followed with adequate rest is better than hitting legs twice per week and getting less rest.

thats exactly what i was saying, i hit my legs real real hard on leg training day
but like i said they are skinny. i am going to hit them hard twice a week to make sure they get bigger. i think i get enough rest, so doing legs twice a week should be fine then, thanks for the help guys.

No way on earth could i train legs more than once a week. They take nearly a week to recover. When you've finished legs you should feel proper sick, if not actually throwing up. They are such a big muscle group you have to hammer the fuck out of them in the gym. If you can walk out of the gym without assistance, you ain't trained them hard enough.

Do some big compound movements, heavy as you can, then after the heaviest set, drop the weight a bit, and again go to failure. Keep doing this until the legs cant hold your weight. Then they've been done properly.

once every 7 days gives opportunity for recovery, and as this is where they grow, the more recovery the better.

I agree with socket, i train legs (when bodybuilding) hard 1 time a week and it takes a damn long time to recover and i can barely walk out to my car without cramping up and i get spasms the next day or two and cramps.

Being sore and puking doesn't mean you trained effectively for growth. It means you beat the shit out of yourself. I get sore if I run 13 miles, but are my legs gonna get huge?

You need to determine which is more effective for growth, blasting the piss out of your legs 1 day a week or less volume and more frequency.

Im going with St8. While you're On, try to hit legs twice a week. Dont go crazy both days and kill yourself but give it a 3 day split and definitely hit it hard. If you decide to only go with one day a week, make sure you go harder that one day than you would have for the two. Especially with Prop. I know on leg days I would throw some in my quad about an hour before I lifted legs.

I hit quads and calves on tuesday evening and hamstring and calves on saturday mournig seems to be working good for me allthough if I where not on cycle I think it might be to much.

Finished my first cycle about 5 weeks ago and while on, I had no problems training major compound lifts twice a week and preferred it.

Now that I'm off atm, once a week HARD feels right.

Correct. Many people do a thing because that's what somebody else does, not because it works for them. If you want to know how your legs (or whatever) responds to 2 or even 3 times a week training, you have to try and see. Workouts don't have to be a 7 day week schedule either. Maybe legs twice in eight days is best for you. Who knows?

To elaborate on what st8grad mentione, there are entirely too many people at every gym in the world that weigh 160 pounds and their chest routine, for example, looks like this:

Bench press 5 sets
Incline becnh 5 sets
Decline bench 5 sets
Incline flyes 3 sets
Flat flyes 3 sets
Cable crossover 3 sets
Pec Dec 4 sets

Then they wonder why 1) they are so all the time, and 2)why they can't ever go up in weight.
