how much do you tip delivery people

today i ordered from a local chinese restaurant where the prices are absurd. An "adult" chicken and broccoli is 25 dollars, so i got 2 kids portions and the price was 25 dollars. An hour later, the guy came to the door and i gave him 27 dollars. About a minute later, he said

"only 1 dolla. You give me 1 dolla and i deliver you food so fast" (if u did the math up there i gave him 2).... I then said that i didn't have any more money but i'll get him next time, and went to shake his hand.

The douche bag goes to shake my hand, then shook his left hand with his right hand, as if he was too good to shake my hand and he really got me good... I never expected this from some chinese asshole, but it was pretty funny

Got me thinking though- how much do you normally tip delivery people?

$2 tip on a NJ winter order is a douche move

It's not the delivery person's fault that you perceive the menu prices are too high

this.

$2.00? Jesus bro. Next time your food will have spit or worse in it. Better not order from them again.

Also, $25 for broccoli chicken? That better have been a big ass portion. But, when you found out the price, maybe you should've ordered somewhere else (esp. if you really only had $27).

yeah probably should have given him more lol-- just had their number in my phone and no access to a computer at the time so i just ordered from there.. If it wasn't so much i would have given him more money but oh well

the best tip i can give him is to get a better job lol j/k i like to hook people up im pretty generous but for selfish reasons i guess i just like to be well tqken care of ;)

All generous people are generous for selfish reasons...even if the reason is that it just makes them feel good..that is a selfish reason.

It depends on the size of the order, and the distance of the delivery. If it's a 14 dollar pizza from only a couple of blocks away, two-and-change or three bucks is plenty. If it's a 25+ dollar order from a fair distance, you gotta give the guy a fiver.

I delivered for a restaurant one summer back when I was in school. Belive me when I tell you that delivery drivers remember the cheap people's addresses, and when they get sent out with multiple orders, they will go to the good tippers' houses first regardless of geography to make sure their food gets there hot. Cheap guy is getting his food last every damn time; even if he's just around the corner from the restaurant...he'll get hit on the driver's way back.

lol

i give 2 dollar tips .. but the places i order from, are only blocks away

funny u posted this , cause i had about a $25 order from a dominican spot near my place yesterday

gave about 1.75 for a tip

guy was an idiot though, couldnt find the building...then couldnt find door and keep calling me over and over

Tell the mutha fucker to look both ways when he crosses the street. That's a very good tip.

I'd say 99% of the time just the distance. I worked at Papa Johns for a few years as a counter girl. The drivers generally didn't give a shit if your order was $30 or $12, but if you were way the hell out in east bumblefuck they would definitely screw you next time if you didn't come across with a good tip. Next time you'd get skipped while while they hit the known good tippers first.

Now if you made a jumbo sized order and he was having to go back and forth to the car fetching like 10 pizzas and shit and then bring them in and lay them all out for your party, then you'd better tip appropriately.

I (almost) always tip well. Waiters, cab drivers... most of them work HARD and deserve it. If I tip under 20%, you've been an asshole.

Uhhhh oh uhhhh aahhhh look at me Ima a good tipper. STFU

I dont tip
Here delivery charge is about $2 and the driver has something called a SALARY therefore we dont tip, here no one ever gets tipped because they have a salary and there is a 13% mandatory tip included in the price... it's gonna be hard as fuck for me to learn how to tip etiquette.... :worried:

That's why I order from places with a time guarantee. If the guy shows up late, free food - but I still tip the driver unless he is a jerk about it. Some places take the price of the food out of the drivers' money if they don't get it there on time.

15-20 % in restaurant
15 % delivery
if there is a problem with service/delivery I call the manager/company and give them hell. but I tip anyway.

that's fuking bullshit and sounds racist just because 75th's peeps bombed pearl harbor is that why
?

+1 not delivery guys fault. You shouldn't take it out on him. He is doing his job. I don't really order food to deliver at home unless it's rare occasion of pizza. I will then tip $5-$7 depending on how much is bought.
