Yeah I havn't maxed here either, here's what I do for regular though..

Seated Smith Machine - 225lbs 8reps
Seated MP/BB - 185lbs 8reps
Seated MP/DB - 85lbs 10reps

Cant' do any Standing due to being on a ship and it rocking, don't feel like injuring myself..

Standing military press - no back support... did 200 for 5 yesterday so I'd put my one-rep max around 225-230.

I no longer try to lift heavy since it seems to put a lot more stress on my rotator cuff than dumbells

havent dont standing in many years, free weight sitting i can do 275lbs for 8, bringing it down to the upper chest, its a bitch on the rotator cuff though

LOL!!! Funniest shit i've read in a long time!!!

Question...how do you guys get 200+ in position for standing presses and how does someone spot you?

Well there are a couple ways to get the barbell in position for a standing barbell press. You can put it on power rack bars at chest height and just setup under it and standup or you can do the manly man method and just power clean it up.

As for a spotter, you don't need one on barbell military press. The key to a good press from what I can tell is to spread your feet a little wider than shoulder width for a good base. Then squeeze your ass and stomache HARD. This will make your body nice and rigid and help you apply your power into pressing the weight. Try pressing with a somewhat relaxed body and then pressing with your ass and stomache tensed hard. You'll feel the difference. Then when you press, lean your head back enough to let the bar pass your face and then lean forward again so that when you lock the bar out it is directly over your head with you looking forward.

I guess I've never tried but I don't think I'll be throwing 200+ off the floor over my head any time soon. But I'm only 165lb so I won't me military pressing 200 anyway :)

christ
thats alot of weight

i've worked my way to 225 x 4

3 plates/side seated on the smith for 5... standing presses arent an option with my destroyed lowerback, and there's no-one who I trust to spot me on heavy DB or free weight pressing in my gym

going below chin level tears the fuck out of my shoulders, dont see the point in adding extra stress to the rotators for a couple more inches.

what happeened with the low back bro?
you get hurt recently or something???
sorry to hear hope it heals up

After seven years of BB workouts - trying to get my shoulders huge...I now realize seated military press and seated dumbell presses (heavy) led to the demise of my shoulder, which hurts now just sitting here typing. Thank heaven for the switch to powerlifting - now the shoulders are getting better all the time.

Be careful.

Couldnn't agree more with the last statement :)

Could you please elaborate more on the benefit of a PL routine vs. a BB one for the shoulders health ?

Well, alot of the problem could be becasue you were doing the seated variations which keeps your upperbody restricted to a certain plane of movement.

IM a female and Ive done standing push press with 100 for 5 reps (clean the weight to starting position)

seated BB I usually do 85 for 6 reps; I think i could get 100 for a single if i tried. Seated DBs i can do a set with the 40s (if someone helps me get them up to my shoulders first LOL)

who voted for 400-500lbs I'm calling bullshit? :D

that would require the ability to raw bench 600-750lbs with a 14inch closegrip, ain't gonna happen :)
