How much ab work is too much?

I have been working out for about two months now. I have been doing 3 sets of 30 on an ab machine setting it at 85lbs. I do this Monday, Wednesday and Friday (my workout days). On only Monday and Friday, I add leg raises doing 3 sets of 25.

Am I overtraining my abs?

My abs respond to heavier weight and normal reps like 5-12 reps on things I can do that are weighted.

On things that I can't weight like leg lifts I go for higher reps.

You are giving yourself ~48 hours rest which is the minimum your muscles need to recover. You may have better results with more rest. I only directly train abs twice a week. If you are noticing results stick to it :)

Agreed.

I think when you start treating your abs too much differently than any other muscle, you risk overtraining them. I only do mine once a week, because I really don't get much benefit from doing more than that. Especially when you consider how much ab work is involved in things like squats and back work.

But again, like mrzap said, it will all come down to what works best for you.

its a lot harder to overtrain abs than any other bodypart in my opinion. i only do them twice though bc im bulking

i train the shit out of my abs with heavy weights at least 2 times per week..
you cant squat and pull with weak abs just isnt gong to happen..
anywhere from 3-5 work sets each time i train abs
