Depends on what you are going for. For strength I do 5 sets or so, for endurance maybe 1 or 2 big sets, for building muscle go medium reps till failure, however many sets that takes.

Yeah all depends what your going for. I usually do 4-5 sets for larger muscles and 3-4 with smaller muscles.

hey guys i think i asked that question the wrong way im trying to put together a workout routine trying to lose fat and gain as much without juice until i get my weight downusually i do this

monday chest, tries how many sets and how many different excercises for chest, same thibg for tries
for instance i do 3 different exercises for the chest but 4 sets each exercise, and for tries since it is a smaller muscle i do 3 different exercises but only 3 sets, same thing goes for wednesday i do back and bis and do the same amount of different exercises 3 exercises 4 sets, bies same as tries 3 exercises 3 sets friday legs and shoulders same # ogf exercises and reps as above i guess the question i am asking is am i doing enough sets for bigger muscles as i am doing 3 differen exercises and 4 sets for a total of 12 sets for my bigger muscles and and for smaller muscles i am doing 9 sets for my smaller muscles

Legs: 12-16(includes calves)
Back: 12
Chest: 9-10
Shoulders: 9-10(includes neck)
Triceps: 7-9
Biceps:6-8
Abs: 6

All done once a week.

How'd you come up with this? Just wondering....

It's tough to say you need a set amount of sets for each bodypart... You can also do a workout like 5x5 revolving around the compound lifts, and not focusing on working out each body part a different day of the week. OH press works your shoulders, chest, and triceps while your back and abs work as stabilizers... You will be overlapping regardless of how many sets you do for each body part

That is how I do it and have been doing the 2 years I have been training. I go by feel and it works for me and I like to train that way. But I can agree with you about what you are saying.

There is no magical answer but regardless doing 20 sets per body part is crazy.

German Volume uses 10 sets of 10 reps but its also using 60% of your max too. There is alot to be considered.

Arnold did 20+ sets, jus saying. Yea yea yea he had good genetics but I believe there are people on this site that if they ran primo and dbol all year long they would look like Arnold. Maybe not but still fuckin jacked!

I just giot a routine suggested to me that is 20+ sets for each muscle group. sometimes 30 sets, what if you were on cycle?

To the OP, there is no magic number. Basically do what you feel is good and gets you pumped, its more important to be consistent. If in a couple months you arent seeing gains, and your diet is good, then try switching it up.

For instance, i do not train a lot of sets. Maybe 15 sets top for a bodypart, and that is a lot to me. However my buddy swears by 20+ sets for each bodypart. Hes big no doubt, juiced to the gills, but basically everyones different. Im just as strong as him and he lifts 2x as long as me. I have learned from my body that doing 15 sets is enough.
