How many sets do you guyz usually do?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and just starting again after a long layoff of five years. My starting sets as of October 6th will be 2 sets for 6 weeks. I'll add one set every six weeks for a total of 5 sets.

Currently I'm getting back on 5x5.

I am considering this at the first of the year. I am going to be going through some changes in my career (a good thing!!! more food money!!!) and with the longer hours at first my body will not be able to recover from what I am doing now. I am looking at it like "Getting back to Basics" for the first half of the year. I think the results will be 80+ pounds to all my core lifts and 10-15 pounds of LBM. This sounds like a good thing lol.

I did some changes to the program though on wednesdays I do front squats, power clean with press and deadlift, and On fridays I do inclined press instead of bench, dips, chin ups and pin wheels... Monday and friday squats and rows are the same.

Hey it's always good make more money, most of us will never make a living out of weightlifting.

Usually 4-5 but i always get carried away on leg press and end up doing like 8.

I'm thinking along the lins of....

Squat, Bench, Dead, {DB curls 3x8-12}
Front Squat, Incline, Rows, {tri extensions or dips 3x8-12}
Squat, Bench, Dead, {weighted Chins 5x5}

Calve work every other session DC style.

I really want to do some Standing OH work though. I will probably do OHP in place of incline. I am really not sure. I need to spend a few hours reading Madcow's site and figure out exactly what I want to do. I have the time though. Mid December is when I plan on starting this up.

Well you also have all ground covered with those moves.

I've to say that I really hate flat bench press, the only way I can improve on those is doing the type of routine I suggested to alcatraz on the anabolic alliance which involves some dynamic effort sets, before going heavy, my arm length doesn't help with this either.

Lately, I've been affected by CEO, SL and Saibot and doing a lot less sets and a lot less reps...

I've been doing volume training for a while and haven't done low volume for some time. Might look into Max-OT for a little.

I have a huge wing span as well and because of it my BB bench has always lagged. I am doing DB work now, but I have not done any flat BB benching since April (beside Close grip presses). My incline and flat DB presses are strong, and my chest is growing just fine without BB presses in the mix.

I think focusing on the BB bench while doing the 5x5 will really help me in the long run though with more upper body and triceps thickness. It is hard to argue with the effectiveness of the BB bench's ability to blow up you delts, chest, and tris. I would be happy with 315-335 for five sets of five at the end of 5-6 months of the 5x5.

Speaking of Dynamic effort... I seen that post (it was good btw) was it a la CT?

I have a bad ass bench press routine that is geared kind of toward power lifters, but still bad ass none the less. I have used something similar to it in the past with good results. I might post it, but I don't want the new lifters to see it and go into clusterfuck mode.

Pm me that routine pleaz. The routine i mentioned is from a guy called Brian Mangravite he supports Louie Simmons dynamic efforts and the static stretch used on DC as well.

i think changing from a high volume to low volume will be a huge
positive shock to your system
i did this when i started DC training a year ago
and my strength went through the roof
i'm doing MAX-OT style now and have always loved the results

I think so to....

Do you have any detailed articles or readings on Max-OT?

5X5. I have never been a fan of high reps as I get bored and I always felt that if I can move it more than 6 or 7 times it was too light to begin with. That goes for working sets only of course. Sometimes I do high rep stuff on squats as required by DC training when I did that.
